I found a .38 S&W DA Perfected (top break with thumb latch) for sale with a 2 inch snub nosed barrel. Well actually Wyatt Burp found it and sent me the listing :)
Anyway the pictures are kind of blurry but it is described as pristine. It has a nickel finish and pearl grips with no medallions. The front sight is pinned on.
Did S&W make this with a 2 inch barrel? I've never seen or heard of one.
I did ask the seller if the barrel appears to be factory or cut down.
Thanks for any input.

I'd have to see a factory letter before I would pay any more than the value of a cut down. The book doesn't mention any 2" or pinned sights on the Perfected.
I would guess after factory chop-job.

Well, it appears I'm not the only one to find that one. I emailed the seller with a few questions myself last night. So far no answer. The SCSW3 makes no mention of 2" barrel Perfected's. The Blue Book on ther other hand does make mention of it as being 'extremely rare - watch for fakes'. I have seen 2" barrels on earlier Double Actions but not on Perfected's. The only thing those blurry photos tell me is that it is indeed a Perfected. But not much else.

So Perfected models do NOT have pinned front sights generally?

Either way, if the gun is as clean as described (and I had the money :))
I think I would pay $300 for it. Looks like a great little gun. Looks awesome with the 2 inch barrel.

I too wrote the seller and have had no response. I don't understand people that post blurry pictures of the guns they are trying to sell unless they are doing it on purpose. It's not hard to focus a camera unless you are blind of course. I think if I was blind I'd have someone else take the pictures for me. A child can operate a digital camera and take clear pictures.

Hummm.... Why do I see red flags? I agree, only a factory letter would make me open my pocketbook. Mike #283

Jsmith and I have both got responses saying this is an original barrel but it's not. The seller only told me that it was origional. He told Jsmith that on the barrel rib it says "MASS. USA FEB.6 06". Obviously this is what is leftover where it once said "Springfield Mass."
It would be a neat little shooter though if you could get it for a couple hundred or less.

It's hard to believe but this gun just sold for $606. I just hope the person who bought it doesn't expect this to be an original factory 2" barrel.
