Daily Carry. What Works for You?

Many years ago when I first got my ccw I decided on a 442. I added a Pachmayr Compact grip to fit my big hands trimmed it for a speedloader and was ready to go.
Just needed a holster.
I was always a do it yourselfer and decided to make my own holster. I started with a thumb break and a Pocket holster.

Carried like that for a while then decided to make myself an open top holster.

After I made a pancake holster for a forum member, I just had to have one for myself.

For some reason, I died it brown.

Problem was it didn't match my belt.

Can't have that. So I made another holster. Along with a flashlight holder.

I still carry in my pocket occasionally.

Recently, I made a pocket holster with a coupla bullet loops for a forum member.

Hmm, I kinda like it.....

Boberg XR9-S in a IWB kydex "Betty" holster. They originally made those "just for women" but it was popular enough that the have rebranded the the same exact holster as the "Eliot Ness" for those macho guys who couldn't stand carrying a girl's holster.

Either Glock 26 or BG380. Have yet to carry them both at the same time. I carry at least 1 fixed blade as well, usually 2. Prefer waist and ankle carry for guns and knives. Occasionally I'll use a fanny pack as well (motorcycle carry).

Gen 4 Glock 19 with Mr. Magoo XS Big Dot tritium sights, Fobus paddle holster. Plastic everywhere. Actually more comfortable (and a darn sight quicker) than my old 442 in a pocket holster.

Requires a cover garment, but then I'm not in Miami in summertime here. It's about as classy as carrying a set of vise grips around, but practical. The 442 remains, but it's plan B.

My heart says wheelgun and CJ-5; but my head says Toyota and "plastic".

Whooda thunk it?

Switched to my Glock 22 once I got my cheapo holster. But I will be switching to a shield 40 here in a week once I go pick it up.

My primary carry used to be a .38 SPCL J Frame - a 637 with a hammer that I bobbed myself. The gun conceals easily and comfortably, is simple to operate and extremely reliable. And the .38 SPCL has a proven track record.

But after reading many threads about carry capacity, and autoloaders v. revolvers, and comfortable holsters and belts, I came to the conclusion that if I am going to carry, there is no logical reason for me to choose the j-frame over a higher capacity autoloader that I can carry just as comfortably. Your choice may be different, and that is fine.

Now my primary carry is an XD Mod 2 .45 with 9+1. While it is heavier and slightly larger than the j-frame, it conceals very easily and comfortably IWB with a N82 holster and a sturdy gun belt. It has twice the capacity of the j-frame, and is a .45 to boot.

The only minor drawback with a N82 holster is that it does cover the grip and slows down my draw. I have a couple of other holsters on order to see if they are "something better," i.e., better access without much of a comfort sacrifice. However, when I carry OWB that issue is resolved.

I have some other semi's that I carry from time to time - a CZ75D PCR, a Shield 9mm, and an XDS 45 - but either the size (CZ) or the capacity (Shield 7 and XDS 5) did not offset the advantage of the j-frame's ease of carry.

But the XD Mod 2 has the edge (for me).

There is still plenty of carry time for the 637 j-frame - when I'm doing something more active, like riding a bike, or when I need to pocket carry.

Personally I think nothing comes close to the aesthetics and feel of a snub nose revolver, and I think the plastic guns are purely utilitarian and ugly. But I let those views affect my decision as to what I will carry. And after much consideration, and weighing the factors that are important to me, I came to the conclusion that a higher capacity, larger caliber compact pistol is what is best for me.

I don't think there's a "wrong decision" in what you carry, and I'm not going to second guess what someone else carries. It's their choice, they are adults, and they have weighed the pros and cons of their choice.

Most often Carried is a Ruger LCP in a Desantis Pocket Holster,Also carried are a Model 60-7 in a older Desantis IWB Holster,Less Frequently a HK USP 9 DAO in a Milt Sparks Summer Special,I have a 3913 but need to pick up a decent IWB holster.

After a lot of research and some testimony from people who shoot things, I stopped carrying marginal calibers like 9mm or .38SPL, and carry primarily .357Sig, .45acp, and 10mm. There is no requirement here for complete (or any) concealment and my CPL isn't in jeopardy if it isn't concealed 'enough' so concealment gets put lower on the priority list than gun and caliber.

That said, my P320 in .357Sig has been primary lately. I have a 'carry' model which is the full sized grip (14+1) and the mid-length slide. I also picked up a subcompact frame (with the same rail) and put that slide on top, so it's compatible with the holsters I already have. The shorter grip pokes out less in the back. This combo allows a flush-fit mag (10+1) and can use the full size mags as backups.

For running, I carry a Springfield XDs in .45acp- open when it's hot and sorta concealed when it gets colder and I have two shirts on.

From time to time I carry my 1076 in a pancake holster, and I have a Sig Nightmare Carry 1911 that gets some carry time as well- but the P320 is such a great combination of caliber/weight/capacity that these two are getting left at home.

I have two holsters for the P320. The first is a beautiful leather pancake style from Tucker- black cherry with black stitching. I have a matching double mag pouch and single mag pouch for the off-side. I also picked up a BladeTech Eclipse to use while I was waiting for the Tucker, and it gets two thumbs up from me.

I'll try to get some pics up later.
