I took Daisy out on a hike for her 5th birthday this week. She has not been out with me away from home for a few weeks because the weather hasn't really cooperated, it's been either real cold or real wet. It rained heavily the past few days and we're expecting some snow and ice to move through the area starting tomorrow, but today the sun popped out and it warmed up to the upper 30's so I decided it was a window of opportunity for Daisy and I to get out.

All the local mountain streams are flowing at full capacity, and some are still out of their banks. I have to be careful about that because no matter the temperature Daisy is going for a swim if she can get away with it. We've hiked a lot around swift mountain streams and she's been caught in the current a time or two in the past so she's learned to be careful.

We had the trail to ourselves and even though the sun was out it was deceivingly cool. We hiked up to a ridge overlooking the streams and sat a spell and had lunch and enjoyed the view. Then we hiked back down a different trail and I had to cross one stream jumping rock to rock because the footbridge was washed out, while Daisy took the opportunity to just wade across.

Overall, I think she enjoyed her birthday hike.

Happy B Day girl! She should go on a date with this pup.
Oooooh... if I had a daughter, I'd do my best to keep her well away!

Daisy, you can do better!

Say, Faulkner, have you considered a well bred, raised properly, dog of good character and genes, as a potential mate?

Such a wonderful dog as your Daisy would surely, with a properly arranged, um, liaison, or, lifetime companion, produce some mighty fine pups for the rest of the world to enjoy...

Yeah, that's going to be a problem for Daisy.

I remember when you got her.

Yeah, that was the stage when border collie pups are just mean. Here's a picture I took a few days after I brought her home and we were house training her. I took her out on the front porch one evening to go do her business and she sat down and would not budge. She looked at me like, "it's dark out there and I just don't need to pee that bad.
