When I was a young newlywed, I remember having Thanksgiving dinner at my wife's grandparent's house. Her step-Grandmother was talking about an acquaintance in Springfield who had recently died. She said, "she was a young woman - only 74." I thought it was funny at the time, but now I have reached an age where I understand what she was saying.

Old is a RELATIVE term. Everything and everyone in all creation is old compared to some things and young compared to others. There is no number that defines us as old or young.

All my life up until my lower 70s, I'd say I'm not old and have no plans to ever be old. But everyone reaches an age (if they live long enough) Where you can no longer deny being old. We can debate old in terms of years and never come to a number on which we all agree. But the word "old" as a descriptor of a persons personal physical state will come to us all at different times of life.

For me this is weird. a year ago I was a city dweller. Not much activity. Lots of air pollution, bored. Feeling worn out all the time. Now, after a year of country life and a country LIFE-STYLE. I'm of the opinion that I'm no longer old. I know it's probably right around the corner but for the moment I am revitalized significantly.

Bottom line here I believe that it is up to each of us to decide if and when we are old.

My 2 friends and I have been going on a yearly fishing trip to Maine for about 30 years. A couple years ago one of my friends said, Do you remember those 4 old guys that stayed in the next cabin when we first started coming here, we are them now!

I'm feeling pretty old at the moment. I was walking down the steps from the deck in the rain this afternoon and my foot slipped on the last step. I went down hard. Bruises on my foot, hand, arm, and back. I feel like Mike Tyson beat me up. Years ago it would have been nothing.

The worst part is, my wife laughed so hard she was crying!

I first felt OLD on my 40th birthday.. wife threw a party and invited some of my range buddies.. we never discussed age.. too many guns to talk about... one friend thought it was funny my wife sent out 40th birthday invitations to my 50th birthday party... ugh... he thought I was just a few years younger than he was.. I had to explain I just had high mileage.. but that hurt a bit... 25 percent older... yikes... of course I look more like Ernest Hemingway every day.. lol

I love being old. I can do what I want, when I want, and I don't have to impress anyone.

And best of all, being old qualifies me for full membership in the Smith & Wesson Forum.:D

No it doesn't, you have to be a Certified Old Geezer, like me. :-)

I'm fully Certified, just ask my MBH. :-)

Have a blessed day,

Leon

YES! You are so right. We are as old as we think we are. Sometimes I think I'm 7. Other times, I'll act my age. But I've never thought of myself as old. One of my buddies is a kid at heart. I tell him he'll never die of old age. More likely it will be terminal adolescence that gets him.
