That ring is a result of the "thread choke" which is extremely common in S&W barrels. That is why it is at the point where the barrel and frame contact each other. Don't worry about it, it is normal in S&Ws to see this if you look closely enough! It is not a "ringed barrel", and is not a result of damage! It is a manufacturing issue!

Notice my "Sig Line", I have been looking at these things for more years than most of you have been on the Earth!!

It isnt constricted in the ring, the jag with a tight patch flies through the ringed Area with no friction indicating it is an internal bulge.

I also hoped at first that it was a thread manufacturing issue, but the jag patch test proved me wrong

I've mentioned this before.
When I went thru the patrol academy I wound up stacking 3-125gr Speer JSP bullets in the bore of my very well worn, issued 4 inch M10 HB during a night fire training qualification. (Long story, major issue with a lot of defective rounds from worn out academy reloading machines.) After removal of all 3 jammed bullets, the division armorer examined the revolver and pronounced it good to go. There was a very visible internal ring about half way up the barrel, if you ran your fingers over the barrel you could just feel the bulge and if you held it up to the light at the right angle, you could see a slight bulge in the barrel. I wound up carrying that M10 for about 5+years until we were issued new M681's. Although that M10 had other issues that were unrelated to the bulged barrel, it still shot quite accurately and I always qualified with ease.

How much are they asking? Seriously tell us what they are asking as we have no idea who the seller is, or have anyway to contact them. So no one here can steal it from behind you.

If it was a bulged barrel as the seller says,,,, the members here can tell you a proper price reduction.

Then buy the gun and do some test shooting with it.

If you no like, post it for sale here. I can hear some drooling in this thread. On gunsinternational an unboxed version goes for 900$ average listing. Some folks are asking 1,400$ for one without box or papers or tools.

Gun was sold ☹️ please delete thread

That was your recent edit...

This was your original post:
Hi All.
I was recently offered a model 14 from 1959 in 38 spl. It is in great condition overall. But there is a slight barrel bulge or ring internally disclaimed by the seller. Right in front of where the barrel screws into the frame. So where the threads start. Around 0.8 inches in front of the cylinder/forcing cone gap.

It was most likely due to a squib load and when pushing a jag through with a tight fitting patch, then it glides through the bulge easily when passing the bulge/ring. There is nothing visible on the exterior, only an internal broad symmetrical ring. It is not a machine mark nor from threading technique or crush fitting. Its a pinned barrel.

Is it Safe to keep shooting and should i buy it? It's a good deal but a replacement barrel is not an option due price.

That's garbage...
I restored your post. If you want to sell an item here, post an ad in our classifieds.
