Derringer for Carry?

From what I’ve seen. a Bond Arms derringer is as big and heavy as a J frame. Given that, I would prefer 5 rounds of.38 Special (and 5 more in a speed strip).

Like someone said, it’s better than nothing & likely to cause the bad guy to rethink his choices. A few officers carried a derringer as a b/u in uniform but my choice was a .25 auto laced into my boot.

I was one. HS .22 Mag. Definitely last ditch, not first choice. A friend carried an even worse choice, the 4-barreled COP .357. Weighed at least as much as a 2.5 inch M19 with 2 fewer shots, no two of which would land in the same ZIP code.

To me the only Derringer worth owning is the original High Standard DAO in .22 Magnum.

Flat, light, no hammer to cock, no safety, very accurate, light recoil, easy to hide...

Carried one clipped to my body armor all the years I was with DPD...

Great BUG when nothing else will fit..(that said the KelTac .32 has taken its place)

I literally have had people run up to me to try to sell me one of these things. It's an insult to snakes everywhere to term it a snake gun.

Back in the day, a buddy and fellow officer made a traffic stop near our office. When the "stopee" got out of the car he drew down on my buddy with a derringer and shouted "Get in the ditch!" My friend failed to comply and put 6 rounds out of his 28 into the perps vicinity. Four struck home, two struck the car.

When forensics got the derringer and opened it up, there were strike marks on the primers......

Short answer is heck no, no way I would carry one for SD.

A derringer for self protection?

One could probably improve their chances of survival by turning off the ringer and keeping their nose out of their phones when in public. Awareness is a powerful tool that isn't used much anymore.
