Same here. Dick's and GM are 1/2 mile apart. Sadly, from what I've seen at the Auburn, NY Bass Pro Shop, you're about to go 0-3 in finding good prices!

I once had a Dick's employee tell me that they NEVER sold handguns.

That's funny, because I bought a brand new Ruger Stainless Super Blackhawk at one of their other locations a few years earlier.

The only good thing about a Dicks is when they open they will be stocked with ammo after opening day though they will be hit and miss like everyoneelse. So take advantage of it on day one.

Im kinda wondering if the one opening here in CC will even have ammo? I spoke with the "Gun Guy" I go to at one of the WMs and he said they told him everything will be strictly limited at that store--according to some higher up he allegedly spoke with. If that's the case-they lost a customer (me) before they even gained one.

I've been in the local Dick's twice...first and last time. They are overpriced and not a friend of 2A. GM is 2A friendly but mostly overpriced. Occasionally they get overstocked on older trade-ins and have a gun show type sale, complete with haggling. This is good and I watch for them. They had some decently priced S&W T-shirts a few months ago and I bought several. Did I mention they're mostly overpriced? Academy Sports is a little better when they have something in stock. I prefer to deal with individuals or local gun stores/pawn shops.

I wonder who "really" owns them? the anti gun crowds I guess?

they aint up a heya, college kids, Dicks in one end of the mall Gander Mt. in the other. and if I believe the rumors, Dicks stopped selling AR"s when Gov. komo put them on his hit list. now they aint nutin but a high end clothes store .

If that is the case? they will not survive long in my area. Sad to hear this place is less than stellar. Ah well, we still have WM and Academy.

ago, they bought out a good Indianapolis chain, and destroyed it. I will not go into one.

Several years ago I worked part time at a Galyan's Trading Company in the camping department at one of their Minnesota stores. Since then that chain was bought by Dicks and Galyan's went away. The old Galyan's carried much more high-end equipment and took pride in training their staff on the product. Now at Dicks the products are inferior and the high school kids they hire dont know anything. I still have friends that work there and say it is a totally different business model. I have one close to my house but their anti modern sport rifle stunt last December was enough to keep out of their crappy store for good.

I would not go out of my way to visit that chain. It's one of those "well I'm short on time and it's the only one around" type stores. Like stated earlier, in season sport items are well stocked, the employees knowledge is not. Anything firearm or fishing related, forget it.

We have one here in Louisville. I went there when I first got my CCDW license to see what kind of ammo I could get to put in my new at the time Raging Judge which I brought in so they could see what it was and be able to help me fit the right ammo. (This of course was before I knew what the Governor was.) When I got there the store was not busy but the sales associate treated me like I wasn't there and was on the phone for G-d knows how long before he finally acknowledged me. He wasn't helpful at all telling me he had .410 shells but I wouldn't want them. I asked him why and he said something like "you just won't like them", and that was it. That was in January and I haven't been back since.

They were Galyans when they first opened here.That was a good store.When Dick's bought them out,they became a clone of all the other big box stores.We have a local (and one in Ames,IA) outdoors store called Jax that seems to have figured out our market fairly well.Sort of an REI with guns,ammo and fishing gear.Ive dropped too much money there!
