Dick's

Went into the local Dicks for the first time berfore deer season to buy some salt blocks at 2 for the price of 1. But when it comes to guns , the big chain stores have nothing that interests me.
No classic military rifles.
No vintage Colt automatics or S&W revolvers.
No boxes of pre-owned gun junk to sort thru.
No shop dog that greets ya with a woof & a wag.
I prefer to support my local independantly owned gun shops.

Last time I went to Dick's was about a year ago. Went to the firearms section. Asked clerk if they carried or could order a Ruger Mini-14. Clerk asked me what a Mini-14 was. Left and have not returned.

I purchased a floor model gun safe from there for nearly 1/2 price. That was a number of years ago and I have not been back since. See no reason to go back either.

I had only been to one of their stores before, and it was about an hour away from where I live. A few years ago they built one in my home town. I had not been in it yet, but last night I had a few minutes to kill so I stopped in. The gun section had maybe 30 or so rifles, mostly bolt action, and the shotguns were just pumps and stuff like that. No problem, I was just interested in a little ammo anyway. Finally found shotgun shells. Pretty good selection of hunting stuff, even (surprise) 16 gauge!:D I'm not needing any of that, so I keep looking. On an end cap I see maybe 10 twenty round boxes of 30/06 cartridges, for $21. Nothing else. I find a clerk, ask about more ammo, he says that's it. They got in some .22LR stuff a few days ago, and it sold out in a few hours. I ask if they are getting more ammo, and he says they're trying, but everything is back-ordered. I ask if they are going to stop selling it, due to the political climate, and he says "what do you mean?"

I was not impressed. Bought a can of racquetballs and left.
A LOW CAPACITY can of racquetballs.

Dick's is a very aptly named store. Our local Dick's is just across the road from Academy Sports. While I'm not huge fans of either, Academy gets my money.

I used to buy handgun ammo there when they had it. Like everyplace
else these days its pretty much hit or miss. One thing I have wondered
about is the fact that here in OKC they have never sold handguns. Is that
nation wide policy, or just here?

Corporate policy. They bought out Galyan's in ATL, who used to carry a pretty good variety of handguns. Once Dick's bought them they eliminated all handguns. I hate Dick's and won't shop there.

Used to buy all my shooting and fishing stuff there. Just about 1 mile from home. Then they remodeled the store. Hunting & fishing section got squeezed out by golf, lacrosse, camping and the largest apparel section I ever saw. Must be huge markup in Under Armor stuff. They got it all. Now go to 3-4 lgs for my needs.

I can't complain here in Vermont.
I stopped in a few weeks ago and grabbed 200 rounds of FMJ for my .40 and 100 rounds of .380 ( I had to save some for others to buy! ).
Priced lower than Wally World and even my LGS!
I only go in once in a blue moon but on that day, they ammo in quantity that others did not have.
I not going to remove any option from the table if it means they have what I am looking for!
