I saw a beauty in nickle in .45 long Colt in a wooden box with a small area covered with a pull off S&W logo brass knobed cover. All in Blue fuzz in perfect shape. Is this a match or a newer revolver put in an older case ? What era would that case be for ?

Yes. Here is a 25-5 in the N8250XX serial number range that came in the presentation case that you describe. Not sure how long they came in the case but this blue one would be in the 1980 timeframe.

I believe that cases were available for the 25-5's from the start of their standard production run intro in '78, but the case style changed from the gun facing left, to that of the ones above in about '79, and was available all the way until around '85 (at least as an accessory).

I see that the question is answered, but I just wanted to show the outside of the box.;)
