I have a 4" M&P which I put the RAM reset in. It is acceptable, but not great. I was under the impression the Pro Series addressed the trigger short-comings.....WRONG. I bought a 5" Pro and man am I disappointed. I'm thinking now should have just bought the 5.25 XDM. The Pro Trigger is gritty, seems heavier than 5#, and has absolutely no reset click. Will S&W address this or should I just turn around and sell the thing NIB as I have not fired it?

Mine was fine and a tack driver right out of the case. Trigger was better than the FS and FS long. Got even better as I put more rounds through it breaking it in. I even pollished,buffed and fine tuned it after break-in and it's better yet.

Mine was slightly gritty but has a much better reset than my standard M&Ps. The grit is completely gone now. I'm happy with it.

I to was disappointed with the Pro's trigger. Then again, the XDM 5.25's I've tried are even worse. It seems no one will put a decent trigger on their so called "competition" gun. You still have to shell out more money for replacement parts or gunsmithing. It's just not right, your spending extra money already for the company's "premium" gun. It should come with a premium trigger.
The best thing about the M&P (IMO) is, it can have the best trigger of any of the plastic framed striker guns out there. If you're a do it yourselfer, you can go the Apex route. If your more inclined to let a professional tackle it, you can send it off to Dan Burwell.Burwell Gunsmithing- Services

For the price,it's still not as bad as my old Colt Commander. Only things left stock in that was/is the slide,barrel and frame. And I had work done to the slide.
Hmm that's funny, my Pro trigger is significantly lighter than standard FS's I tried and my 9c .

I've said it before and I'll say it again. You can build a better gun than the pro model just buy buying a basic M&P and building it up from there.

I don't know if I would agree with the comment re the XDM
5.25 trigger -- I just bought a Springfield 5.25 .40 cal XDM
10 days ago -- and have not made any modifications to it --
I thought the trigger was very nice right out of the box and have shot a POST course with it and qualified. It is my first .40 cal pistol (I have a bunch of 9mm's, .380's, .45's -- Brownings, Berettas, Kimbers, Smiths) and I do like the Springfield. I will admit that I have spent lots of range days qualifying on an M9 (Beretta 92) on military courses with pistols drawn at random from the armorer (and of course none had been accurized and usually had been treated "rough" -- and had typical military pistol triggers) and always qualified --
so being able to shoot anything even a notch above military troop issue seems like heaven to me. I do recognize that even my XDM's trigger could be improved a bit, but for an out of the box striker-fired pistol, it has been a pleasant surprise to me.
talked with CS @ S&W today. Seemed more than willing to send a prepaid pickup to take a look at the gun But were very honest in that the work they do will not improve the reset. As mentioned, I think the pull is fine, gritty uptake. So if I send it off I think I'll send it to one of the after-market gurus and get the best work possible to include the reset.

I have a 5" Pro in 9mm and I'm sad to say I'm disapointed in it as well. Mine shot groups that looked more like patturning a shotgun then shooting a pistol when I first got it, as well as shooting at least 6" low at 25 yards. I sent it back to Smith and Wesson, great customer service by the way, along with a test target and my issues. They reported replaced the barrel. It does shoot tighter groups now but it's still shooting 3" low at 25 yards. The trigger is mushy.
I bought this gun in hopes of using it in local 3 gun matches and the likes. I was hoping for something a bit more target range ready then my stock Sig Sauer P226. I'm proud to say that my Sig shoots better, even with it's age and DA/SA trigger. I wish I could aford an X-5 but the M&P is what I settled on. I do like the feel of the M&P but it I just don't see myself using it in matches.

shot my M&P in IDPA match. got to admit it shot GREAT, but I can't wait now to get a trigger job. Very pleased with preliminary range work as well. It's a keeper......but I still wish S&W would put in a good trigger to start with

I agree with your trigger sentiments on the Pro. I think S&W should actually put in some Apex parts to really make it a Pro model. It doesn't warrant the name at all after putting the Apex FSS & Trigger set to 3 lbs. and shooting it in my M&P9L. That trigger, while a different sear than the Pro sear, was very, very gritty. I pulled the trigger on numerous M&P's before I purchased the 9L, but I just couldn't believe how bad it was out of the box.
Would be nice if S&W at least got a deal from Apex to use the FSS or Competition trigger and one of they're sears (FSS is different from regular Apex one they sell) and maybe a couple different springs from one of they're kits. Maybe set to 4 lbs. from factory.

Love shooting my 5" Pro 9 in IDPA. It is plenty accurate and can hardly remember the last malfunction. But...mods include:
Needless to say those mods equal the purchase price of the gun. I don't mind spending that kind of money on my main competition gun as I want it to be right and I like to make the gun somewhat unique. But I can understand the next guy not wanting to.
Unfortunately, from what I see, one has to spend a minimum of $200 on a Pro for trigger and sight work.
- Sights - Original FO's shot way low so I installed Trijicon night sights
- Trigger - Sucked so I installed Apex FSS
- Barrel - Probably didn't have to but replaced with Storm Lake
- Finish - Was fine but I like electroless nickle

I cant really agree with the comments on the xdm 5.25 trigger as mine is far better than most striker fired platforms. Maybe you handled a bad one. You could always go with the PRP trigger to make it better anyway. As far as the OP's comments about the M&P pro, the trigger was the reason I went with the xdm to begin with, it was pretty durn awful. BUT THEN* seems like theres always a but somewhere.

i must be the lucky guy on the block. My first M&P was the 9PRO and I have been impressed by the quality of it's trigger when compared to the normal M&P's.

Reset click means absolutely nothing in IDPA,USPSAany action shooting sport or self defense situation.Because you will never feel or hear it under those conditions.
