Disrespect

You don't "disrespect" somebody. You "show disrespect" for somebody, or you "have disrespect" for somebody.

I disagree. I can disrespect someone, but whether or not I choose to show it by my words or actions is an entirely different matter.

Oh ****!!!
along with the **** fairy, now i have the grammer police to look out for??
what has the world come to

I will give you an example of why I think grammar is much more important than people treat it:

Which statement appeals more to you?

"I'd rather cuddle then have S**"

OR

"I'd rather cuddle than have S**"

And that is all I will say.

ctw girl that is also one of my pet peaves.
'Then' is a continuation, such as in time "it was two o'clock, then it was three o'clock" or "he went to the bar, then came home late" etc.
'Than' is a comparison or alternative, such as "better late than never" or "I'd rather cuddle than have s**"
A lot get this wrong.

I can't stand the way folks use of the word "awesome" these days. Every time something is kind of neat or cool.....Awwwwsome. God, give me a break.
I'm thinking this thread may not last too much longer.

I have been with middle school and high school all of last week and this week. The grammar center of my brain is about to short circuit.

The one that gets me these days is the over use of "...right?" Some people end every sentance with it, as if they are constantly seeking agreement or approval of their thoughts or opinions. Irritating....right?

Another one is "of" and "have". This, I believe, is because they sound so much alike when spoken, but it is "I would rather have gone to the movies", not "I would rather of gone to the movies".

It is, however, used wrongly very often.

Wow, man.

If you mean here, they have been here all along. They just seem to flare up every now and then. Hard to say why. But be assured, they have been here all along. You are just new here. ;)

By the way, it's g-r-a-m-m-a-r. (You're welcome. :D )

My photos are crummy enough without being taken on a cell phone (see recent post). My cell phone doesn't have a camera; it's for talking.

Did I mention that "charge hole" sticks in my craw too?

I wouldn't worry, most folks who use the term shorten it down to "dis"

Huh? Charge hole sounds like something to do with firing a cannon. How do you hear it used?

My two biggest pet peeves are as follows:

(1) Lose vs. Loose. "AMR is expected to loose all shareholder value in bankruptcy" is an example of this ridiculousness. Your shoelaces can be loose. But lose is a verb.

(2) Yea vs. Yeah. "Yea" is a word pronounced "yay" and is used to denote joy, unless you speak King James English, in which case it means "verily" or "truthfully". "Yeah" is slang for "yes".

Edited to say that I actually saw posted on another internet forum the phrase "taken for granite" as well as "for all intensive purposes." Gotta admit, I found both of those pretty funny. And speaking of the word "take", if you say "take and" a lot in your speech, I'll eventually ask you what you'll be taking. "You take and hit the nails with the hammer." I'm sorry... what exactly am I taking?
