got a brand new shield and the quality of the feedramp was horrible. there was a chip in the ramp, and it was wavy and looked unfinished. I already contacted smith to send it in, and its been 5 days since iv heard from them about sending me the return information. this is my first S&W pistol, and may be my last. of all the guns iv owned iv never had a quality issue like this right out of the box. has anyone experienced any issues with their shield 9mm's feedramp?

I have a shield that I use daily. I carry it inside my shirt attached to my body armor. I am a LE officer and a range officer. I can attest to my shield as a good quality handgun. I also carry a M&P 9mm for my duty weapon. Remember what time of the year this is in getting responses. S&W has been here for a long time, I am sure they will fix your issue asap.

There are lighter weight all metal Smiths made when the quality was right , right out of the box. I have a pristine model 59 if you are interested, but it would cost more than a plastic gun.

I always inspect my (potential) new firearm before putting my money on the counter. There have only been a couple pistols I've refused over the years, but if they do pull a gun I don't think is up to par, I don't feel bad in asking to see another from stock. My Shield was defect free.
As mentioned, remember that it IS the Holidays and they may, or may not be geared down for the last couple weeks. They'll make it right.

Have you fired it to see if it works? :)

yes I fired it, had a few failure to feeds. I purchased this gun for my EDC, and right now I cant trust it. ill have to wait and see how it goes when I get it back.

how about some pictures so your concerns can be compared to some others out there. the feed ramp on both of my shields look " unfinished and wavy", yet they both work fine. and there are a couple places that look machined funny, that could be confused as a chip.

is it a 9 or a 40? just saw its a 9. its a very small compact gun and the springs are tight. the operation will break in, at least mine did.

I tried taking pics but I don't have a camera good enough to get a good shot. the FTF seemed like the brass was catching on the chip. i couldn't see clearly, but from looking at it, it seemed to fit.

I had an issue with my Shield, the barrel was uneven/had a rough/raised area in it. Brass casings had a crease on them from over pressure when fired in it. I called S&W, waited on the phone patiently and got the Return/Fedex stuff in my email two days later. Got it back in 11 days after I sent it in, shot it yesterday, it was flawless.

I've found over the years, you have to call S&W and speak to someone, not email them. I don't know how you've contacted them, I'm just saying this as a general rule, not aimed at you.

If you've called then and not been emailed an RO, odds are it's your spam filter.

I called and waited on hold for 45 minutes. so I tried emailing and got a fast response. don't have the RO yet, I watch my spam. im sure its due to the holiday, I expect ill have it early this week.

Yeah, the wait time is terrible, I've found early or after 7pm the best times. I've never had any luck other than by phone.

I think you are right about the Holidays, I bet they are closed till 1/2/14.

Good luck, let us know how it goes.

Shortly after I purchased my shield I had a double feed that caused a small chip in the feed ramp. Its right at the end of the ramp but its not affecting the performance of the pistol.

I have been a S&W fan all my life and all of my firearms are S&W. I personally can attest to the service offered by them. I've had many of issues arise over the years and they have always made them right at no cost to me. Smith & Wesson's warranty service is top notch.

Yup I always inspect the gun before money changes hands..even if I order it and accept it at my FFL...

SW will make it right, though it may take a while to get it back

S&W will take care of you. A little patience is in order given the holiday season. My Shield as been a rock star. If it wasn't for me, it would be even better...ha!

My shield is my conceal carry daily. Never had a malfunction or issue. Even with the cheapest, Wal-Mart Russian made ammo. Smith has amazing customer service and generally handle issues quickly.
Let us know how it goes, and gl

I had the same feed ramp problem with my Shield. But since I got it directly from a gunsmith and since he was doing a trigger job on it because in Massachusetts we have a 40 lb trigger.....He took care of the feed ramp and polished it smooth and bright.
I still don't know how this firearm could have left S&W.
That aside, the Shield has been flawless and is my favorite carry.

I'm sorry that this happened to you & the lack of service you've received. I'm sure that by next week it'll be back to normal at Smith. The Holidays are always a bad time to get any responses.
