Disturbing memo from SG Ammo

..... Sure, would-be scalper scumbags would still be scrambling to buy up dozens of boxes at the first sign of trouble, but the only person who would get screwed is them since everyone else would already be stocked up and thus nobody would buy their marked up ammo, nor would they need to because the ammo companies wouldn't have to scramble to meet demand......

Spring 2019: Federal 5250 rd case .22 lr 36 gr plated HP's, $199 before the $40 rebate. OK, send 2. I guarantee before Summer's end (unless madness subsides) folks will beg me for a box @$60. I guess I'd be a "scalperscumbag" if'n I turned that $320 worth of ammo into $1200. Which I won't. I'm too old to **** around for money that ain't "life changing." Joe

Good call, best to just be a decent human being and not take advantage of panicking people for the sake of profit, saves you the hassle of deathbed repentance.

Dave,

During normal times, the manufacturers may be producing ammo for say 50 hours per week, they could always up it to 90-100 hours per week which would nearly double their output. They'd have to hire some temporary workers, which would impact their efficiency, but it's doable.

And you are exactly right, this isn't the first panic buy we've seen, you'd think they would have at least some excess machinery available to turn on when necessary. I guess it depends on how strong the bean counter influence is at a particular manufacturer.

I saw the same add. Basic 9mm ball ammo is now .26+ a round. At that price I can probably justify loading up the components I have on hand for my wifes 6906.

Although we all know that once prices on anything shoot up, they're unlikely to go back to where they started, but there are signs of hope.

No surprise that 9mm, .223, 5.56, and 7.62/39 are most affected, but I'm seeing other calibers seem to be getting back to normal. For example, .38 has similar pricing to where we started, and some places have .357 that's close to pre-panic levels.

Exactly. Just got quite a deal on .32 Long. ;) I imagine demand for "weird" calibers will remain fairly constant.

SG's ammo prices are a touch on the higher side. I would deal with these folks AimSurplus, Llc. if I needed ammo. A local shop was able to buy ammo from Aim, when his distributor could not fill his order.

I learned from President Clinton. I stocked up on powder and primers Wednesday morning after President Obama's first election win. Gun show specials added to the inventory, and now a lifetime supply has been achieved without a reduction in shooting activities.

At age 72 that is easy to do.

You ain't the only one. I haven't even touched the primers I bought that day.

Let me see...........counting 15,000 rounds of various calibers, OOPS dropped one down the floor ventilator. OK, got enough!

My wife always gets a laugh when she hears about some bad guy in the news that was arrested with "an arsenal of guns and THOUSANDS of rounds of ammunition". Not that she thinks bad guys are funny, she just knows how much ammo and supplies I bought over the years.

It doesn't take too many 500 round bricks of .22 to add up quickly. I've got an ample supply of all my firearm needs - ammo in the necessary calibers, magazines, some spare parts, cleaning and maintenance tools, even reference books to help me maintain some of my obscure firearms.

We will get through this. Thank goodness so many folks have learned from the past, and gotten their inventory already.

Best wishes everyone.

On the hoof

I got that SGAmmo email and thought it was good business, and just plain thoughtful.

Now that hundreds of employees at meatpacking plants are getting the virus, I need to stock up on bacon and sausage while I still can.

Come South, there are plenty of feral hogs. Sausage & bacon on the hoof.

I too saw the email from Sam Gabbert. I ordered a 5k case of 22lr from SGAmmo and got confirmation yesterday that the order is filled. So it is being shipped right now. I've bought from SGAmmo for several years. My local small-chain dealer ran out weeks ago. What they can get back in stock has nearly doubled in price.

x 3

..........X2

x 3 on reloading. Also don't forget to look at alternatives. Today's 32 Long can be loaded to be pretty hot just remember not all 32 Long guns were created equal. The hot stuff works great in 32 magnum and 327 mag guns. 32 Long reloading components are not hard to find reasonable.

The amount of new gun owners as a result of the virus panic is staggering.

They all need ammo.

Glad I snagged 10K rounds of .22s yesterday. It's hardly anything and I'm embarrassed that I'll only have about 11,000 on hand once they arrive.

Pathetic stash but by my calculations of me shooting 300 rounds per month which is about average, that will give me about 3 years of shooting. Hopefully that is enough time for the shortage to recover, or at least cool down a bit. That's about how long it took the last time.

Might buy another case or two just to be ready.

I am well stocked. Mainly due to the fact that SGAmmo has been my go to supplier for the past several years. They have been selling it cheap, and I have been stacking it deep.

SG is the BEST ammo sellers on the net. Been dealing with them for years.

A different company also did my good recently. This week I received 250 rounds of .25 ACP ammo from an online order. Well, it was the wrong brand. It was PMC when I ordered Fiocchi. I emailed the company and they sent me 5 boxes of a Fiocchi for free. Pretty cool.

When this China Virus dies down I'm going to open a business that deals in toilet paper and ammo. How about I call it "Shoot and SXXX"?

Better yet: "Shoot the ****" with the logo being a rifle with a toilet paper roll as a scope and the slogan; "Fire in the hole!"

Oh, and you need to offer a rewards program for those who buy in bulk which ranks up from "Private First ***" all the way to "Rear Admiral".

When you have a new gun with no ammunition on store shelves, do you really blame people for drying to buy a few boxes online so they can st least shoot for a bit?

Buying a metric ton and hoarding it and ESPECIALLY flipping it for a profit are bad. But, there's not so much wrong with buying a little where you can just to have some about.

The problem is, with literally MILLIONS of new shootists in this country, that's where they're all in the same boat: new gun, no ammo.

Can we really blame them for trying to be prepared?

On topic: my ammo stash will last for quite a while because the Sportsman Club is shut. I go shoot on the public lands but that's low round count per visit.
Off topic: Just a little humor for these grim times attached.

Read between the lines, Walmart no longer suppresses ammo prices.

Unless you just discovered shooting last week or have been living in a cave for the last 10 years, if you waited for the emergency to happen before you thought about buying enough ammo to hold you over for a few months, you deserve to get fleeced. SGAmmo has two goals. To sell you ammo and to get as much for it as the market will bear. So they send out a e mail, just like every other business is doing, telling you that ammo is going to be scarce and you better take advantage of their deals while you can. "All things considered, I believe we still have some decent deals in stock, admittedly not as good as they were, but not as bad as I expect them to become." So act now while you still can because we can only offer these deals for a short time and then they will be gone. It's called marketing and it's mostly nonsense. Having seen how ammo has been a commodity, I think I'm going to take a chance that the ammo companies will make more and pass on SGAmmo's most generous offer. Now I'm going to take a couple of hundred rounds of 45's from my supply and spend some time banging away. Don't forget to wash your hands!
