Had my 9mm Shield for a couple months, and my eyes (glasses for distance and reading) have a difficult time finding/focusing on the front sight. I researched a lot of the aftermarket sights and decided to try something on my own first. Using Rust-Oleum florescent orange paint and a trimmed down Q-Tip, I changed the color of my front sight from the stock white to orange.

Is the orange brighter than the white in person? It looks dimmer in the pictures.

If you're up for more experimenting, I would recommend dimming your rears (even blacking them out) and keeping your front white.

I like the orange up front. Did the same myself but with .99 nail polish.
I started with blacked out rears, but decided I didn't care for that setup. Ended up trying flo-green on the rears, and like the way they work.
Whatever suites your fancy and your eyeballs.
Horrible pic alert.

Wouldn't be good for me as the local high school colors are black and orange. So a lot of orange in the area and the front sights would blend in much to well ..

Think that is why the neon green color is about the best to use as that color isn't often used in the background and so doesn't fade away if aiming..

I thought at one time yellow front sights would be good but that color is popular now in shirts and jackets .

But a good idea !

I am using Florissant white on my TZ75 Series 88 in 9mm/41mm and covered the complete front surface of the front sights on it. It being 29 years old the white sights had turned almost a light grey and very hard to see. Has work pretty well so far.

I painted the dots on my CZ P-09's sights similar to this. Fluorescent orange on the front and bright white on the back. I used Testors model paint. The front orange site really popped in good light -- not as good as fiber optics, of course, but still far improved over what I started with.

another nail polish user here. Wait, that may not come out right....
;)

Anyhow put bright orange on the front dot of my 9c and liked it so much did the same to my new FS9. Left the rear dots white on both.

Painted dots arent as nice as the fiber optic on the front of my Buckmark .22 but just a dollar for a site 'change' works well for me and my shooting needs at this stage.

Guns that I have not put fibre optic front sights on get Model Master Fluorescent Red, which has an orange cast.

If you put your chosen color on over a white base coat, it will be brighter. Most of these paints and polishes are translucent and a white base will reflect light back out through the color layer.

I have one factory sight with a white blade around a tritium lamp, it is ok.

I prefer black rear sights. If you are going to use color on the rear, it should be less bright than the front.

I used some florescent orange testors model paint for mine.
Its nice and bright!

I'll run this format till I get some night sights. Probably the Ameriglo Pro I-Dots.

I have also tried the Nail Polish on 2 of my guns. A nice cheap way to see what I like :)

I think so. It is a bit brighter, but it is different, and that's what attracts my eye.

I also use Testor's fluorescent orange enamel paint in the 1/4 oz. bottle. I apply the paint using a wooden toothpick for accuracy. So far, I'm very happy with the results.

I use orange nail polish on my revolvers, works great and is really cheap.

I was thinking about putting some on my 40c...but not in the actual dot of the sight. I was thinking of putting it on the flat part outside of the white dot...just around the white dot. I was thinking of doing it this way because I have night sights and I don't want to ruin the actual glow part of the night sights...but I was thinking the orange around it might be easier to pick up during the day.

Has anyone tried doing it like this?
