DNA results in....I am a mutt...

we dont need no DNA lab stuff.......my side has been traced back to the 1700's and my wife's family has its history from 1500's..........

I wonder just how accurate the DNA test really are? Anyone know?

I saw a test somewhere where identical twins sent their samples in to several of the testing places. Every time their results came back different - it varied from slight to significant differences. So I guess the answer is that they are not perfect. Maybe the results should be considered an educated guess at best.

I had mine checked early in December. And the results pretty much showed what I expected; British, Irish and French ancestry make up almost 80% of my genetic DNA. My wife has some Native American in her though, as she had a great grandmother that came from a Louisiana/Texas based tribe.

Wow! I'll bet you were devastated when you found out that you have no American Indian blood.
Both my Dad and my Uncle Roy told me that we're Blackfoot. They taught me some phrases, words and a few stories.
It had been a family secret since both of them could pass for what was known as "Black Irish." Even though the Irish were discriminated against back in my Dad's generation, it still wasn't as back as being an Injun.
I'm not sure why but I show my Injuness more than they did.

I like that new word, "injuness",

I had always been told that my great grandfather emigrated from Ireland and that I had a lot of Irish in me. Plus my last name, Lawler is an Irish surname. Did the DNA test with ancestrydotcom and lo and behold, I’m less than 1% Irish! I came in at over 60% Scandinavian, with about equal portions a little less than 10% of Great Britain, Italy/Greece, and East & West European. It’s evidently accurate, because it identified several first cousins that I’ve been in contact with who definitely share ancestors with me.

My wife had her DNA tested. I used to kid her all the time about being a hard headed Norwegian. Her mom has some Scandinavian ancestry.

Her DNA came back and she was really disappointed. Not as much Scandinavian as she thought. Seems there is some Scot and German in there also. She hasn't said too much about it since.

She wanted me to have mine done and I told her I already knew what it was and it wasn't good. I'm related to an Irishman from Ulster that hit these shores in 1750. DNR certified. The DHS knows I'm here. ;)

Mine says 100% European and so far it is proving right as I am working on my family tree. Although I do have less German than I thought, it's mostly Scotland, England, Ireland and Welsh. But I knew about some of it from stories I heard as a child. So yeah, I'm just an ordinary white guy.
