Do any of you own a CZ vz2008?

Just got a folder last week. Haven't shot it yet waiting for ammo. VZ58 clone. Magazine are expensive do you have 6 or 9 mags? And they don't use AK mags. 7.62X39 Striker fired, lots of folks on the AK forum rate them higher then the AK's. They have a last round bolt hold open. Download a manual. Milled receiver, lighter, less recoil then AK. Looks like you have the bayonet lug, 14x1 right hand thread on muzzle break thread, and bayonet goes on from the back.

Forgot to mention it may suffer from the trigger reset gremlin if it didn't have a tabbed bolt carrier.

Yes. But i own the Czech VZ58.

The rifle itself is not compatible with anything AK47....only ammo. It has a few gremlins, mainly a dead striker. Mags are no more expensive than mags for other guns. $20ea. Accuracy is about the same as an AK. About 2-4 moa depending on ammo. They are milled and light weight. Overall a nice rifles, a bit over complicated but reliable. However I would not rate it over an AK. There are a lot of little things that I would like to see changed.

Now, is yours a VZ58 or a Century Arms vz2008? The Century has an American receiver, barrel and a hos of other things. Century is know for finding the cheapest possible builders. They are also known to lie in order to not fix problems. I wouldn't trust them for anything, that being said from everything I've read about these new VZ 2008 has been positive but then again most of those people shoot a few hundred rounds a year of a bench.

Overall they are good rifles if built competently. For some reason the manual of arms benefits a left hand shooter. They are good fighting rifles if you don't expect precision pin point accuracy. It will hold its own out to 400 yards if you do your part.

What's the one built by CZ USA? Is it a quality built rifle?

I'm assuming it is also built on an American made receiver?

Really interested in the CZ built model as I've also heard the Century rifle was garbage.

That's the vz58. It's a Czech built rifle. Everything is Czech on it. They get enough 922r parts to be legal. The fire control group, piston, muzzle device, maybe a mag follower or floor plate.

Mags can be had for $20. Unfortunately I didn't get to shoot the one I had. A pawn shop in the area had a 1026 and I didn't have enough cash on hand. He ended up with the VZ2008 and I took the 1026 home.

Thanks for the info. The gun came with a sling, two pouchs w/4 mags each, one bayonet, and a manual. No cleaning rod like you have pictured above. I like the fact that it has a milled receiver vs stamped and a threaded bbl. This is my first AK of any kind and I'm looking forward to shooting it. I've got 1000 rounds due here on Wednesday. Will have a little fun this weekend! :)

Just remember. ..it is NOT a AK. It's about as close to an AK as a Mini 14 to an AR.

It's a short stroke piston and functionally closer to a FAL or a SKS.

There is no difference between milled or stamped Aks. All the difference is in one's head. There are stamped AKs with thicker receivers then milled. Yugo has 1.6mm milled or stamped. Chinese are 1.5mm stamped. Veprs are also 1.5mm stamped. But that's besides the point since you don't have a AK in the first place. They don't make a stamped receiver VZ

Have fun!

Herfe's what I shot in New Zealand during a visit It's the real thing, with a full auto capability. They're pretty loose about these things in New Zealand. If I remember rightly, the mchanism has a dropping block that looks a lot like the one on a P 38.
