Do I have an MA gun?

I bought an M&P9c from a seller on Gunbroker that says it is both CA and MA compliant, which I think presumably means it is a MA gun since MA has a lot of the same requirements as CA plus the inclusion of the 10 lbs. trigger pull. I live in California and wasn't aware at the time that MA guns were any different. I have noticed that trigger does feel kind of stiff, although I haven't fired off any rounds yet w/ the gun.

My serial starts with DVR3xxx

Do you think I have the MA version of the gun? If so, would an Apex sear lighten the pull?

The MA and CA guns have the same features, Both have magazine safeties (wont fire unless mag is in) no internal lock, and no thumb safety. They differ only in the Mass pistol has a 10# trigger while the CA has the std trigger. You can change it. I put the Apex DCAEK in my 9mm full size and love it.

Is that a new thing in MA? Mine is about 1 year old, and it does not have the magazine saftey - I CAN fire w/o a mag in.

Mag safety is apparently not a MA requirement. I just bought my M&P45 from my LGS here in MA with no mag safety. My 9c DOES have the safety.

Some have the mag safety, some don't. My 9c and 40c both have the safety, my 40fs and 45fs don't have the mag safety.. and I love em all... just cleaned up my 45 tonite, should clean em all.... naaaa, think I'll shoot some more.. :)

oh ya... the trigger.. easy upgrade, get the Apex kit, you'll think you died and went to heaven. The beauty of getting the Mass gun is you also get the larger sear housing block, that's a good thing... everybody that doesn't have the Ma gun wants one..

Thx for the replies. After matching up my SKU 109254 with the SW site, i found that it is indeed a 10lb trigger pull, which makes it an MA gun.

Would just installing the Apex sear reduce the force required for the trigger break with stock MA springs and block? I don't feel like spending the money on a full Apex kit right now since I have another gun purchase in the near future. The spring tension for my gun feels fine for carry, but i just don't like how hard the trigger breaks.

Yes, just replacing the sear with the Apex sear will make a big differance. Idid just the sear on my 40fs and loved it for carry. I think it if perfect. My others, 9c and 45fs have the full Apex kits and my 40c I have been carrying lately has the sear and the striker block replaced. I did the striker block because the take up was pretty gritty, that took care of all the gritty feel. Good luck.. :)

This isn't true. Both my M&P's bought this year are capable of firing without the Magazine inserted, so it's not a requirement

I just put the Apex sear in my 9c (MA 10lb trigger) at first. This brought my trigger pull down to 7 1/41bs. A couple of weeks later I put in a free state trigger return spring from brownells ( $3) which then gave me a 5lb pull.

Recommend you guys read this thread:

http://smith-wessonforum.com/smith-wesson-m-p-pistols/133743-data-apex-sear-install-ma-m-p.html

There are apparently internal differences in the MA compliant pistols that are more than just springs.

Might be a good idea to combine the threads so the information isn't fragmented.

They give you both springs (sear spring) now, so this is not an issue anymore. I would leave the MA spring in for a better reset. The apex spring is heavier than free state sear springs so you need to change those to apex. But the MA spring you don't need to change.
