I have a XDM 10mm. It's almost NIB. Nothing wrong with, I like it, but Sprg. has discontinued it. Do I:

1. Keep it, or

2. Sell it now, and get the M&P10mm?

Depends on which fits your hands best.

I had the XDM-10, Glock 20 and M&P 10.

I have “normal” size hands and wear a size large glove. The SA and the Glock are both too big for me to get a comfortable grip on. The S&W is MUCH easier to get a full and confident grip on. The other 2 have moved on.

YMMV

1. Which one (model) do you have? How much in accessories?
2. Does the fact it has been discontinued raise any issues with you?
3. You say you like it: what do you think the M&P 10 will provide that you will like more?
4. What's your projection regarding proceeds from the $ale vs. Co$t of the new one?
5. Is it your usual practice to replace one gun with another?

I'm not being critical here: as far as Question #5 is concerned there are multiple threads about individuals replacing firearms, i.e., a Shield (1) with a Shield (2), then with a Shield Plus and later with a PC Shield Plus and on... Nothing wrong with that: it is a matter of choice. Just asking if that is where you are coming from: there is nothing wrong with obtaining the newest model if that's what one wants, whether it be a firearm or a car or the latest, greatest phone.

Just hard to give a meaningful answer/opinion lacking a bit more relevant information.

Cheers!

Is it the same basic gun as their 45? If so, wouldn't everything interchange? And if so, no problem keeping it running, so that isn't a problem

Keep the XDM. I have an XD that's no longer offered here in the U.S.. It's the compact tactical XD45. 5" .45 ACP top end on a compact frame. Carry with the flush fit 10 round mag, 13 rounders for reloads or malfunction recovery if needed. I find it the best of the XD pieces, providing a low profile butt for concealment and the benefits of the 5" sight radius and barrel performance. The thing has run like a sewing machine since I first got it back around '06. I also have an XD 9 subcompact which has proven great as well, but I still prefer the .45. I know many people who are down on the XD platform and have read much anecdotal information about poor durability but I've not seen anything documented by any agency that has tested them nor photos of all the problems that are supposed to exist with the design. My main attractions to the platform are the grip safety and frame angle. I find it a better pointer and a piece less likely to go bang if something gets inside the trigger guard thanks to the grip safety.

Recently Bering introduced to the XDM 3.8 9mm I am in love. Most old guys are looking for small and light but, this 2lb. 20 shot with replaceable back straps just fits me right. I like shooting it and don’t mind carrying it. If you like your XD I would keep it. I don’t see what it matters if they stop producing them. Try the Smith if you want first, then make your decision .

CDNN were selling those and the full grip version at fire sale prices just before COVID hit. I finally cracked and bought the full grip variant for about $380 IIRC. Then I got the free (I think) mags and mini range bag from SA. What's not to like?

Take your XDM to a range that has an M&P 10 for rent. Shoot them back-to-back and determine which one you like best.

I've shot the M&P9. What I was concerned about is having a gun with no parts availability. But I suppose the XDM will outlive me, probably.

SA seems to be transferring from XDM to XD Elite which have better triggers.
I put the basic Powder River Precision Easy Fit trigger kit on my 10mm XDM. It cut trigger travel in half and made it feel much cleaner. I recommend it. Springer Precision has a good product too.
Get your hand on the S&W pistol and imagine it next to your XDM as is and with an improved trigger.

A suggestion: when posting a thread asking for advice or opinion, either..?

1). Answer questions about the issue, or...

2). Post a poll.

Cheers!

P.S. And NO VOTING THREE TIMES, MickGlS! This isn't a mail-in ballot!

If you like it, it fits your hand, and you shoot it well, then keep it. But since it has been discontinued, buy all the magazines you want now. After a few years it might be like trying to find certain S&W 1/2/3 gen magazines or mags for Star pistols.
