Looked today and it is not checkered. Appears to be tooling on the back strap prior to the grooves beige cut. From another camera angle the checkered look is not evident. Thanks.

I think the grips are spectacular. The gun, well, not a 27 fan.

I myself, admire about any old N frame , no matter the calibre. I shoot some more than others, currently only have a 25-5 and a 27-2, and no question as to which will get fed more, given the cost of fodder......grips are beautiful, but if I'd have commissioned them, I would have asked for more flare at the front, a bit less at the back, more like factory
