Anyone carry a gun while fishing?, just asking because a friend of mine had some problems with rift rafts but nothing serious. Got me thinking about it, you're out fishing in a secluded spot, what if you come across some unwanted visitors. Came across this subject here - Fishing with guns

We do a little "pond fishing" (private pond/catch and release) at our place in the Laural Highlands of Pa.... 2 acre pond straddles the property line with a neighbor.......lots of ATV traffic on a road that passes by the pond ..... and folks looking for my neighbor at his "camp"

Generally carry a 3" 66 or my 3" 60-10 (.357) whenever I'm out and about in Penn's Woods...................

FISHING

Well I always have, but the problems I have had down through the years, and I haven't fished for some time now, were not of the two legged variety. Even so, one should be very careful before showing a firearm in such as case. The law frowns on branshing. That being said, one should think twice or more, before a shooting. Harassment, in my book does not qualify-- there are of course fine lines here, and my judgement is just for me. Others I am sure have their own. I can only relate one time when I had a problem of this sort--I was done fishing, my buddy was still trying his luck. I was doing some target shooting with my 45 and all of a sudden I heard someone shout from off to my left 'don't shoot my dog' The guy kept yelling this and soon arrive shouting this over and over. I holster my gun and was quick to explain I was target shooting and had not seen his dog. We have a real problem with packs of feral dogs around here, one 85 year old lady was killed some years back while attending her garden. Anyway, the guy calmed down and went on his way.

Back in SC there tended to be alligators in shallow bodies of water. In the ocean, there was always the chance of sharks. There were also large water snakes, and although not officially recognized, feral pythons or whatever they were just like down in Florida. To say nothing of the feral pigs, feral dogs, cannibalistic hobos, and what not else.

Here you will find that bears like fish too. I don't know if the big kitties and wolves eat fish. Probably. Dogs and regular cats will eat fish.

There are also snakes here.

For a long time there was a classic sub type of gun known as the tackle box gun.

I carry everywhere legal including while fishing, I would guess if I had to draw my weapon while fishing it would be for a 4 legged pest but we do have quite a few meth cookers in this part of the country so you never know who you might meet up with out in the wilds.

OTHER THINGS

I stumbled across this guy once while out taking photos. He was across a drainage ditch, no mor than 10 ft away. Wife was watching him through the glass and said he never took his eyes off me. No doubt waiting for me to slip and fall in. :D

Dang J.R. was that up in Virginia? I had no idea gators could be up that far north.

I always carry when fishing. You just never know when you might be in danger. People can territorial anywhere, even in the woods.

On the boat my carry gun is usually in the glove box as the pirate treat on Lake Ontario is pretty remote and I feel safe that we won't be going to war with Canada too soon. Arrr or is it "eh" eh?

Trout fishing on the local streams or bass fishing the ponds and river, I absolutely carry something! The only exception to that is for some moronic reason it is illegal to carry in our county-run parks. Sadly some of those parks make for some fine fishin'!

I carry my 649-2 in my pocket everywhere I go. Am seriously thinking about an ankle holster for the now rare times I wear a suit. The two things I do not like to leave home without is my J-frame and my swiss army knife.
