do you carry at home?

I have to admit that I was initially surprised that so many of you carry at home.
But after I read Best Weapon For Home Defense, I understood.

IMO, it is a very sad statement about our society that many of us fear home invasion so much that we need to carry in what should be a very safe environment. Somehow our home is no longer our "castle".

So I have a few questions for those of you who carry at home:
  1. Does this inhibit/preclude any activities at home that you would otherwise enjoy?
  2. Does carrying at home make you feel safer?
  3. Does carrying make everyone in your home more relaxed, or more tense?

How could a pocket gun inhibit your activity? I don't fear home invasion at all. . . My children would offer their opinion that I'm looking forward to one . . .

Yes, I carry at home when dressed. When I am getting up in the mornings or going to bed at night, there is a gun very near me. I put my AIWB with my Glock 43 on when I put on my shorts or jeans.

My wife does not carry at home, though there are ample firearms available should she need one.

. I carry a gun just as a matter of course. It's what I do.

That's it right there.

I believe that some gun owners never become at ease with carrying. Most folks feel a bit self conscious or some level of anxiety when they first start carrying, but it soon fades away. For some it never does, and they think it's that way for everyone else too.

Convinced that everyone else must be suffering the same carry anxiety that they do, they get the idea that anyone who carries at home or otherwise all the time must be living in great fear of being attacked in order to justify and endure the anxiety of carrying a gun. Then they dream up stuff like being armed at home has some deeper negative societal meaning... blah blah blah.

I haven't started carrying at home, but I'm considering it.

If you have a home invasion, and by that I mean a burglar or burglars who enter when you are home, I figure you won't have time to go to a safe in the bedroom to retrieve your 12 ga. or handgun.

The BGs will just kick the door open with no warning. Same if you answer the door and they push in right past you.

Likely the only gun you have access to is the one in your pocket.

Even if only a 5 shot J frame, it's better than a bigger gun in a safe.
