Do you prefer the snub K frames over other lengths? UPDATE

OK I have had all kinds of revolvers (mostly K frame) 6" to 4" barrel lengths. Over the past year or so and after some swapping, trading and selling I have recently acquired...

15-4 Nickel 4" (1980)
66-1 Stainless 2.5" (1981)
15-3 Blue 2" (1971) - fixed incorrect barrel length

I really like the balance of the snub noses K frames.

It's weird but the snub 15 actually feels heavier than the 4" 15 which makes no sense. They both wear identical Pachmayr grips. I am sure if I weighed them it would show me wrong but it just feels heavier in the hand. Maybe the balance is more towards the butt of the gun?

Damn, I had spent most of my fun money on these recent purchases so now I have to save up to get more. Maybe a Model 10 or a 64.

Anyone else prefer the snub K frames?

Well I like the looks and balance of the snubs but can't shoot them worth a darn. My brother is a crack shot, so I usually let him sight in my guns at 50 feet with the my standard target reloads. He chewed out the black ring. Granted the first time shooting this snub 15 but several times I missed the target altogether! Yikes!
After several tries we were down to 10 rounds. He put 5 in the black. I put 5 in the white all over the standard 50' target. At least the last time I didn't miss paper.

The black rear sight and black front and target all blurred. I am thinking of adding some orange paint to the front sight. My eyes are fine with my the snub 66 with the black rear and red ramp front.

I am also thinking of somehow putting in a gold bead front sight. Not sure

Just means I need more practice.

I like the 3" and less crowd. Heck, I even cut a few N frames down for myself.

The 3" K frame seems to balance really well for me, and I like the full length ejector rod.

Me, I prefer the balance of the 6” over my 2 1/2”. It just feels right. Both wear VZ grips.

I’m not sensitive enough to notice much difference between my 2 1/2 inch K frames and my 3 inch K frames. Come to think of it, I’ve shot about a zillion rounds over the years through 4 inch K frames so I prefer them very slightly if shooting past 15 yards. Up to there, I honestly shoot them about the same, no matter the barrel length. Shoot them all.....

There is just something that feels right about the snub-nosed K-frames. I have an M&P, a 15 and 19 that just seems to point so natural so yes, I like the K-snubs.

I have a 19-4 and a 66-2 both 2 1/2". They both shot like a dream and are easy to handle. I had a 2" model 10 in nickel many years ago and it was a great shooter also.

I have a model 60 & model 66, both with short barrels. I am replacing guns I sold when the change to semi-autos for law enforcement took place. I do not like adjustable sights, so I changed the rear sight on the model 66 to a fixed sight. We carried a 4" model 66 when we changed over to a model 645. I was about to retire when we changed to a 4506, I took it to one range qualification, so it has had 50 rounds through it. As per our contract they had to give me my carry pistol. So I cleaned it up real good and it has been in the safe ever since.

I guess my all time favorite would be the K38 combat masterpiece 4 inch. They just seem to handle better and faster them my others.

also yes. My model 19 snubbie is my favorite it just has the "look". I'm surprising accurate with it. my favorite shooter is my model 19 4" super accurate but when I look at my guns the snubbie brings my biggest smile.

15-3 Blue 2.5" (1971)

Since no one else has pointed this out, the Model 15 was not offered with a 2 1/2" barrel. It was always a nominal 2" and yours probably measures 1 7/8".

The 2 1/2" barrel was used on the K frames chambered for the .357 Magnum to allow for a long enough extractor rod to eject the longer magnum cases.

Snubs are cool and fun and in the market the shorter the barrel the higher the value but I like a 5" for shooting.

I have always loved K frame snubbies. After my 2018 fire I sold almost every one of mine due to water stains. Couldn't look at them. Sold my 2.5" Model 19s, too. But these survived nicely:

Both are excellent carry guns when I am so inclined.

This 2.5" Ruger Security Six is still with me, too - it's in the home defense battalion:

I still have one remaining J frame and one vintage Colt Cobra but the K frame smiths are the handiest.
