I am interested if anyone uses the model 10 pencil barrel or heavy barrel for ccw use. If so what barrel lengths do you prefer?

I used to carry a model 10 and a 64 when I first started as an LEO. They are just as viable today as they were 18 years ago. I really liked my 2" model 64 for CCW but the 4" was nice too. The cylinder is the hardest part to conceal so barrel length doesn't matter all that much. IWB can be a bit uncomfortable with a 4" barrel but it can be done. If you have the opportunity to find a RB 3" model K frame, get it; they are the best platform in my opinion for a CCW K frame.

As a matter of fact yes.
Upon our return to the big city we chose these..
for me a model 10 and old M37.
The wife her model 60 and 66.
They all travel with us until we get a handle
on security at the new diggs.

I CCW a 4" Model 65 (same size as a 10 HB) IWB all the time.

Hell, I also CCW 3" and 4" N frames IWB too. Did so all day yesterday including a drive down to northern suburbs of Cinci for shopping.

Believe it or not, a 4" N frame hides easier than a full size semi auto due to its rounded contours. It is much easier to print with a semi due to its long grips and all the squared corners vs the revolver's rounded contours.

While I don't have a pencil barrel Model 10 I have been carrying my 4 inch 10HB all day today (Saturday). I still have it on. I am using a Bianchi #8 holster.

That is very true and very underappreciated. I don't carry an N frame but I do carry revolvers and I find the grip end conceals pretty easily, especially the round grips. I also find the revolver grip is acquired faster by my hand than the semi-auto grip.

I carry a 2" Model 10 (round butt) on some days when I am not carrying my Model 640 no dash gun.

M10-8 .38 3" modified to DAO for LAPD carry. One of my off-duty guns. Also carried as a back-up on uniform patrol when I still carried my M67 .38. Still carried often in retirement.

yep....as a LEO i carried my model 10 snubby many times...gave the gun to my son...sighhhhhh....i carry a 686 snub these days

Decades ago, I carried my 4" Model 65 off-duty as well as on. It was a little heavy, but in a close-fitting thumb-break holster, worn right around the kidney, it was no problem concealing (or drawing, if needed).

No argument here, a M65 or M13 in 3 inch is da bomb. Wouldn't feel helpless with a 3 inch M10 or M64 either.

I carried either a skinny barreled 4" Model 10 or a fat barrel 4" Model 64 for many years. I still carry the Model 10 sometimes. If I could ever find an affordable 2" Model 64 I would love to carry it.
There is no problem carrying a 4" K frame to me. They are quite a gun when you need a gun.

Not a Model 10, but close enough.

I alternate between a Model 15 or a 19. Both with 4" bbl, in a Kramer IWB No. 2.

In the Winter, I carry a 4" tapered barrel Model 64 in a Bianchi #5BHL holster, concealed with a long jacket or vest. In the Summer, I carry a 2" Model 64 in a Don Hume Slide, concealed with a Guyaberra or Hawaiian shirt, or vest, depending on activity or social situation. Never been made as carrying, have a permit, never carry where I'm not supposed to, so I don't worry about being made. Here's a pic of my carry pieces and gear:

The 2" Model 64 can be concealed with an untucked t-shirt with the Don Hume Slide holster, it cairries the revolver with the muzzle even with the bottom of the belt. The only draw back to the Don Hume holster is there is no retention device, so far the only time the revolver has come out of the holster is when I take a nap on the couch, the revolver winds up between the sofa cushions...

I do have a Bianchi #5BHL for the 2" revolver when retention is necessary, such as hiking, biking, sailing or canoeing. It is still easy to conceal, just sits a little lower on the belt.
I really wish they made more skinny barrel 64s like yours. I sure would like one myself. Oh well I guess I'll just stick with my skinny model 10.
