Does anyone Pocket carry the Shield?

When mine comes in several months, I was thinking about pocket carry. My wifes will be here next week.

Pocket carry is nice if you have to disarm.

What holster are you using?

How does it compare to the jframe for pocket carry?

I haven't put mine into carry service yet, but I can front pocket carry in my jeans and cargo pants/shorts. So far I'm using the Galco PRO286 leather pocket holster made for the G-26 (from Optics Planet).

DeSantis has a Pocket-Tuk that's a pocket holster that has a removable Clip (like the Soft-Tuk), so it can do double duty as pocket, or IWB hoster. There's a seller on Ebay that has the Pocket-Tuk and Soft-Tuk, each for about $20 (including shipping).
The skew and item #s for the Pocket-Tuk on the DeSantis site are the same numbers as the PPS and G-26 numbers on other sites.

Most everyone who owns a Shield will tell you it is a holster gun and not meant for pocket carry. There have been some who have done it though. I have no interest in pocket carry so I haven't tried it myself. Can't stand bulky things in my pockets. Cell phone, keys and pocket change drives me crazy as it is. That is just me though.
 
I have a blackhawk size 4 pants holster and I were cargo pants. Have no problem carrying shield in these pants. I make sure there is nothing else in the pocket. I always know it's there because of the weight.
 
I couldn't comfortably pocket carry an LC9 so the Shield wouldn't work but it's very comfortable IWB.
 
I tried pocket carry today, didn't work very well. Need a better holster. I 'm using a DeSantis Nemesis.
 
Only good place for iwb on me is the small of the back area. I'm fat (I admit it) about 280lbs and 5' 11" I'd like about the 4 o'clock position, but... Any suggestions ?

I pocket carry my Shield in a Desanti model "E1" (Designed for a Glock 26) 10 hours a day while at work in 36x32 Dockers and after I changed out the stock 3 Dot sights for Big Dot the rear sight stopped catching especially in pants that had a small opening. (I can draw sweep safety and dry fire in 1.5 seconds)

Is pocket carry for everyone? No

I am 6'2" and 195 Ibs. My body frame allows me to pocket carry but like the Beretta Nano I pull my belt in a notch or if wearing sweats I tie the draw string tight and pray the rope holding my sweats doesn't break or the pants are coming down fast.

A J Frame is going to be lighter to pocket. The Shield loaded with 8 rounds of 124 grain ammo is 24.1 oz. Beretta Nano 23 oz loaded with 7 rounds and the ideal pocket gun in 9mm the Kahr CM9 is going to be close to 20 oz loaded. (All three are heavier than the J Frame)

24 oz is some serious weight in the pocket and forget about jogging or biking the gun will beat your leg raw. I use a fanny pack to transport when I am biking and I am still trying to figure out jogging. I may just go with an LCP at 11 oz loaded for running.

P.S. I just tried tonight a new Galco soft leather IWB. If I wear it at 2 o'clock it is uncomfortable when I sit down. If I wear it at 4 o'clock my untucked shirt or jacket climbs up when sitting and I have Shield exposure when I stand up. 3 o'clock I don't have any fat so my hip bone rubs against the holster.

The attached pocket holster is my choice. It fits and is my only carry method until I can get more body fat on that hip bone.

Depends on the pants. I pocket carry with a Blackhawk pocket holster when wearing shorts with no problem. I have also been carrying it in my Crossbreed SuperTuck IWB that I use for my M&P9 Compact...it fits fine. I just ordered a Mini ST from Crossbreed yesterday for my wife to try...if she decides not to use it I will give it a try.

I can pocket carry the Shield as easily as I carry my 642. The Shield may be even easier because it is narrower. Pocket carry is not my first choice...but it can be done. I imagine in the winter it will slip right into my concealed carry vest and jacket with ease.

Great gun. It has replaced my 9c and 642 as my everyday carry gun.
 
I've been front pocket carrying a PM9 in a basic uncle mikes #4 for years now and just recently started carrying my shield 40 the same way. I wear somewhat loose fitting cargo pants and shorts with deep pockets so it hides pretty well. It is slightly heavier and slightly larger than the PM frame and I do notice a minor difference but it does not feel overly bulky or obtrusive at all. It all depends on what kind of pants you are wearing and how deep/wide the pockets are. If you wear lighter thin pants/slacks with no belt then the shield might be too heavy and pull down. If you like skin tight jeans then it will be difficult to pocket carry anything without printing or having difficulty on the draw regardless what gun you have. Dockers are nice but the pockets aren't big enough for my tastes, I want to be able to have a clean draw without struggling with a narrow pocket opening. I personally like big deep pockets so carrying the shield that way works well for me. YMMV
 
This is the WRB holster I have been using for in the pocket carry. I actually got a new WRB holster for my Shield. But, the Kahr PM9 one I had works better. I popped out 2 stitches for the trigger guard, and the Shield fits great in the Kahr version of the holster.

If you get the Shield version, the holster tends to come out with the gun.

I pocket carry mine in a PJ pocket holster...works fine.
I also use an RKBA OWB.
I like both, but pocket is easier.
5'10, 230, 40/30 pants.
 
I have pocket carried my Shield in a Galco for my 642. I found it to be a little longer in the grip than my 642 but a little shorter and obviously flatter. I can pull it off in most of my jeans but iwb is really the best for me if I can. I really like owning this gun, just a great piece.

When Recluse Holsters gets one finished, I'll have one of those along with their mag carrier. I have one for my hot, Phoenix summer LCP. It eliminates 1/2 the holster bulk. Safe to pocket carry with loaded chamber due to trigger block in holster!
 
I pocket carried an LCR till I got my Shield. Now it's in a Stoner Brand belly band. Comfortable for me. The band is versatile, but I wish it had some cant.
 
I pocket carry the Shield in a DeSantis Nemesis in Dockers or the pockets for most of my dress pants with no problem at all... a few dress pants don't have a large enough pocket and then it's back to my LCP in a Nemesis. 6'4", 220, pants 40x34.
 
I can do pocket carry, but in my jeans I think it prints pretty bad. So I found my Don Hume IWB holster that fits my Glock 33 & it worked. It wasn't perfect, but it rode with me all day today & felt fairly decent. :)
 
I pocket carry the Shield in a Desantis PM-9 holster. I restitched the trigger guard area. It works fine!

People differ in their pistol weight tolerances. I carry a Ed Brown KC on my hip and the Shield in a pocket. The Shield IS a pocket pistol for many of us.

I've pocket carried for 20 years and during that time I've carried a S&W Bodyguard J-frame, Kahr PM-9 and now the Shield. To me, the Shield is a better pistol for the pocket than a PM-9. The Shield is just as quick, more controllable, and it's only 3 onces heavier.
 
Pocket carry of a 642 works great for me. One day is all it
took to get used to it. That's in one of Mika's creations.
I've also used a DeSantis Nemesis for a Sig P230/Sccy PX-2.
Don't know how close those two come to a Shield, but after
a day of carry, they feel like they belong there.
Maybe Mika will make some pocket holsters for the Shield.
Can't get much better than that, IMHO, TACC1.
 
Being a small man at 140-145 lbs and 5'6" and some one who refuses to wear droopy attire for my weapon I either use a Black IWB or when I have the funds a MTAC from Comp-Tac or the other option is what you see me wearing today which a Black Hawk OWB small of back with a strange cant for about 50 dollars at most LGS's

Now this might be the strangest cant of a pistol it is comfortable in a chair or while driving and is out of the way of pockets and the plus is that you can draw with a natural draw and reholstering is simple, I am still breaking in but I like it a lot and will use it in the morning to work with a cover garment and leave it where it is on my pants (it is a belt holster)!

That looks similar to my DM Bullard holster for my FS. It was not comfortable driving.

I have pocket carried a 642 for a few years in a Mika holster. The Nemesis that I used did not hold up.

In the last couple of weeks, I started to carry my M&P 9mm compact IWB with a Remora holster. I love it.

Sometimes, I carry both. If I have to disarm, I like pocket carry better. I can just put it in the glove box.

I tried to pocket carry the compact in a Desantis Nemesis, but the holster would not stay in my pocket. So, I returned the holster.
 
I use a clipdraw and a trigger gard when I carry my sheld . Front pocket or on my belt. Can't see it and it doesn't print. It's my backup.
 
It works in my lapg or similar pants, but not well in my jeans. The jeans comfortably carry a model 60 though. When in a pocket they are in Boraii pocket holsters. I've tried DeSantis, Blackhawk, and several leather options, the Boraii crushes them in concealment/bulk, retention, and positive release on draw.
 
I've got a 9mm Shield, and a G43. No way could I comfortably carry either of these in a pocket. I do have a Ruger LCP and a S&W 340PD airweight that I carry in front pocket of jeans or slacks.
