Does your State require vehicle emissions testing?

None in Indiana, but the privilege is definitely abused by some here.

Indiana still has emission testing every 2 years in Lake and Porter cos.. Another bend over and take it concession to Illinois.

Diesels in Colorado test every year to the tune of $65. Worst of it is the Dems in charge raised or added bridge and road fees to the cost of plates. My 1996 Ford f250 costs $125.97 per year for plates, then add emissions cost and it gets ridiculous.

Yes in Az, for the gasser every 2 years, for my diesel its every year, 27 bucks circling the drain.......Great state for gun laws, but not so much for vehicles.......

This vehicle testing to me is kind of a joke here in Arizona. We definitely have smog but just how much of it in downtown Phoenix is caused by having the 5th busiest airport right downtown is a mystery to all of us since planes are exempt.

In NYS even the cows have to be emission tested.

I believe anything before 1998 is exempt from any emission testing and new vehicles for the first annual inspection. Then every year afterwards it is part of the inspection.

Thank fully Virginia does not. I remember when I lived in California I had a car that was missing about a foot of exhaust pipe in front the muffler. The tech was always surprised the readings were so good, right with in specs.

When I lived in the People's Republic of Maryland, they had tailpipe emission tests every year. Some private company hired by the state of Maryland did the tests. They stuck a sensor up the tail pipe and you pulled onto a device on which the rear wheels were on two rotating drums. You sat in the car and had to depress the accelerator to match the line on the computer screen in front of the car. I've been gone from MD for 15 years and I don't recall how much they charged but it was quite a bit.

No emissions testing in Vermont, but now & then I wish there was, such as when I get behind a car that burns a quart of oil a mile and forces me to lay way behind in an attempt to avoid the fumes and stink.

Tennessee doesn't require it statewide, but Metro Nashville (Davidson County) and surrounding counties do.

They check the computer for codes, and pull a vacuum on the gas cap.

I once had a work truck fail because the cigarette lighter had a faulty fuse. Not sure what that has to do with emissions.

A friend of mine told me that Indiana used to have it state wide, but it was done away with a number of years ago. Didn't know that it still went on in NW Indiana.

Ohio still does it, but it's limited to 7 counties in the greater Cleveland area, Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake, Lorain, Medina, Portage and Summit.

I remember when they quit doing it in Cincinnati. Made me quite happy. I think I went through about 3 test cycles. Of course it ended right after my last test cycle.

The main reason for this post was because previous test results on my truck always showed the percentage of CO2,hydrocarbons and whatever else came out of the exhaust.Now the test results just say that the OBD confirms that the truck is running as designed and there aren't any trouble codes in the system.

I had to wait in a little room so I didn't see if they probed my tailpipe...

I meant to say the truck's tailpipe!

They use to have emission testing here in KY,but they stop about colse to 20 years ago maybe more.It was a rip off,and the people was never happy about it.Our car's were being tested,but cars and trucks were coming through the state that wasn't being tested in their states.

Here in Missouri we are forced into emission and safety inspects every two years.

But the good people of Illinois do not have to worry about either. Probably the rule makers in Springfield/Chicago haven't thought of it yet.

FYI, safety inspections do not make for a safer vehicle. The roads in non inspection states are not cluttered with broken down non drives.

You must not travel to Indiana much. Not that I think we should have inspections...
