Woman arrested after driving over 100 mph in snow

Seeing this on Yahoos' page brought back old and similar

memories of my ''YOUTH''.. lt was 1970, right after Viet Nam.

l had just gotten my little 327 Corvette tuned up and was

headed home that night to a 'RED HOT MAMA' West of the Ashley.

The little 67 Coupe was certainly no race car. Just the standard

327 with a 'slip n slide Powerglide' two speed automatic w/AC.

My drive from Parks Auto Service to home was about 15 miles

down l-26, turn on Hwy 7 across the Ashley River, then a short

run down US17. Well after getting on 26 @ Aviation Ave l punched

the gas to feel how good the tune up was. The secondaries on

that 585 Holley and she began to MOAN. l looked down at the

tach. The needle quickly went past 4000rpm and was heading

towards 5grand when l got off the gas. l guess l got on it a few

times before getting off l-26.. Maybe even a couple times on the

Ashley River Bridge.. l know l hit it once on US17 just past the

Clemson Experimental Station... Anyways l turn off 17 on to the

frontage rd and l see the red light from Charleston County Police

car... l stopped, got out and asked what the problem was.

All out of breath he says, ''l have been chasing you since you

got on l-26 at Charleston AFB.. What is your hurry? Are you drunk

or CRAZY''? l said, ''l don't drink''. He said, ''Well you must be

CRAZY''. Anyway, he gave me a ticket for doing 110 in a 60 zone..

Charged me $75 and said it was the minimum.. Ticket said,

''Driving too fast for conditions''. Didn't say anything about jail.

l explained l had been away, had only come home for the weekend.

l had to be back in Norfolk for the Navy on Monday morning.

l sure do miss that little White 327 Corvette. My $75 too.

l DONT miss the Navy or Charleston.. The MAMA?? That's personal

You know what I don't blame you for getting on it, there nothing like owning and driving a Corvette, my first experience was in 1968 when I owned 1967 C2 big block, what a thrill, I also got caught in California for doing 125 MPH, out in Barstow with fine $150.00, and got to keep my license. I have been driving Corvette's today, still like getting on it, but lucky me I haven't gotten caught, thank g_d for radar detector.

Ahhhh. The good ol days of being young, dumb and indestructible. I was a slow learner. It took me 50 years and three motorcycle wrecks to figure out I wasn't bulletproof. I've got a back full of road rash and plenty of aches and pains to remind me everyday. When I finally wised up I bought me a lil white Vette but mine's a 75 model L48. The horsies dropped so low the factory stopped putting it on the center console plaque. :( Nowadays I'm happy to be able to tool around not getting crazy...there's plenty of those out there to make up.

A Vet is just one of those machines that you either love or hate.

You know that you are up to speed when the fiberglass starts to rattle!!

There was one tv show on that featured a Vet as the two guys ride, as they
crossed the country.

A 911 in 1966 was also a nifty ride.

Great cars. Not a pretty sight to see one disintegrate in a crash at that speed though. Zero protection for the occupants. Difficult to identify the car, or the driver/passenger when looking at the leftovers.

Had a 67 Corvette roadster. 400 horse Tri Power small port head hydraulic lifter cam 427. Got caught more times speeding with my Chevelle SS that I built an almost L 88 for.
Those where great days. An era for sure.

Not my case mind you. I'm almost 62, and it only snowed in my hometown, for some 15 to 20 minutes 11 years ago.:D

And I hated every minute.

I was out in the snow just last night and headed back out again tonight grooming snowmobile trails. :D

We don't get ice storm here fortunately but I do however LOVE driving in the rain and snow. :D

Let's talk corvettes, I'm tired of snow. I like em! The red is an 89 roadster with a hard top and the yellow is a 2001 Z06, factory rated top speed of 171 miles an hour.

Got caught on the Doylestown, PA bypass doing 125 on a bike. Didn't get a ticket because the cop thought there might be something wrong with his radar. Just a warning.

Ive heard a saying that God protects drunks and fools
I was 19 years old driving home late one night driving about as fast as my little vega would fly about 90 mph
The next morning i saw on the news there had been a multiple car accident on the freeway exit i had taken , couldnt have missed it by more than a couple minutes
Apparently the entire road was a sheet of ice

Gosh, Your story brings back memories long ago. 1953 in fact. My car then was 1939 Ford convertible with a souped up flat head V-8. I was coming home on Pleasant Hill road about one AM & going very fast until I saw red flashing lights behind me. Two officers both gave me a ticket as I had passed thru 2 Judical zones. That was for doing 85 to 90 in a 35 zone. That cost me 125 bucks when I was making 55 bucks a week.. Had to sell my Ford soon after
