Don't ever sell your collection, have you ever?.....

Has there ever been a firearm you owned that you wished now you had not sold or traded? I can think of a few myself, and they were not particularly collectible at the time. OMG

Once upon a time I had a late 70's era 6" 28-2 that I bought new at Arvins in Macon, GA. I used it while in seminary and shot the flying hound out of it with everything I could put in the cylinder. I found a new Bianchi 10L for $30 and bought that. It was the best revolver and holster I ever owned. One night I had that revolver in my hand when I found someone bumbling around in my church in the wee hours of the morning. A number of years later... predictably... it was a little "loose." So I let it go for what I paid for it... $185 cash. It was years later that it was finally replaced. My identical-twin brother (deceased) had two 6" 28-2's. We were at the range shooting them, having a big time. We fired them so much that I put tape on my thumb because it was getting raw from cocking the hammer. When it was time to head home, he asked me which revolver I thought was the best. I pointed and he gave it to me. I still have it. It will never be let go. Ever. Period. One day I will find another 10L to fit this revolver. Then... I'll have to decide which of my children will get it. Because it will most certainly never ever be let go.

In my 65 years I've traded or sold several different guns.

There is not one trade or sell that I didn't regret. Never again.

I had a Model 25 in 45 ACP that I sent to S&W and had a 45 LC cylinder fitted to it. They even fixed up the wooden box it came it to hold the second cylinder.

I traded it.

I got a need 547 when they came out. Traded it.

Couple Pythons, I don't cause they didn't fit like a Smith. Model 19s, 13s.

I cry when I think about it.

Had a near perfect M1917 Revolver. Now I'm into US Vintage Military Weapons, it would fit perfect in my collection.

Had a Remington 788 that I put a late '60s Redfield Acca Range (M40 Sniper Scope) on, traded it for a saddle. You know what those scopes are worth now days.

NOPE I'll never sell or trade another gun. Just gonna let my kids and grandkids fight over them.

I've only sold one firearm in my life, and that was a muzzleloader. For some reason, when I purchase a gun, I can't ever seem to get rid of it. I keep thinking, it's paid for, why not keep it......

I do regret not purchasing more guns from a friends estate. He passed on, and I helped his wife sell his collection of S&W's. I thought I did a pretty good job searching what he had and getting a fair price for his smiths, but I found later that I let several of them go for "way less" than worth.

Yes there were 2 that I sold that I regret selling. There were a S&W Model 36 no dash blued finish with a 2 inch barrel made in 1972. The other was a colt official police nickel finish 4 inch barrel made in 1957.

625 Mountain Gun in .45 Colt with original wood grips.

The only one I really wish I had back. (Besides the engraved Hi-Point :D)

If I didn't sell or trade a gun once in a while I would have never got to own and admire other guns. I'd like to have all of them back. There are a number of well to do members on this forum and I sure envy them. They get to keep their guns.

Inland m1 carbine; sold because ammo was too expensive and I didnt reload

Bulgarian Makarov....twice!!

Brazilian contract 1917's; not collectors, but awesome shooters.....twice!!

S&W 66....no dash, made in 1974.

Many more, but cant think about them without crying

I have sold/traded away many guns and I want them all back.:(

A few:
Mauser HSc with German military holster and extra magazine.
Mauser WTP-2, French production.
Jaeger 32 ACP.
Browning HP, Competition model.
French MAS 44 auto rifle.
Winchester 101 Skeet grade, 12 ga.
Winchester 101, 28 ga.
Colt New Service, .455 Eley, backstrap stamped RCMP.
Collt Mustang Stainless Pocketlite.

Makes me depressed just to think of them.

Winchester pre '64 match rifle 30-06
Winchester model 100 308
Winchester pre'64 match rifle rebarreled heavy barrel 30-06
Winchester pre'64 featherweight 308
Winchester model 69A 22 rifle.
All I have left is a Winchester post '64 match rifle in 30-06
And chances are if I really think on it I probably could well add to the list. Frank

One of our members commented, years ago, that he has owned every gun he ever wanted, just not all of them at the same time.

That comment has stuck with me. I think that is the way to do it, really, for most of us.

About 8-9 years ago, in a terrible bout of 1911-itis, I sold a buddy my 3" M66 for $375.
Now that we're both retired, and working at a LGS, he reminds me of it every couple of weeks.
He's the reason I had to go out and buy a 3" M65. Couldn't afford a like-length M66.

Way more than I care to admit to. Finally wised up in about 2004 and have sold less than 6 since then.

When I was out of work in, IIRC, 1998, I sold a BUNCH of my collection, including: a 39-2, a 4506-1, a 4013, a 4516-2, and a 3914.

Almost ALL of my S&W semiautos. All I have left is a 6906, and a 5906, and I honestly can't remember if I bought them later, or had them at the time.

The REALLY sad thing is that I still had some money in the bank, and I could have gotten by without selling them.

What a stupid move on my part.:(:confused::eek:

I've only been in the game of keeping them for about five years and I dread even thinking about giving up any of my Smith's. I've bought and sold Colt 1911's, Glocks, Rugers, but have kept all the Smith's.
I was at my local Cabela's a few weeks ago, and they usually have a large number of Smith revolvers in their show case in the used Gun Room. I have bought a few from them over the years. I was shocked to see that I could count the number of revolvers they had in stock on one hand. They usually have 25 or so.
If I was an investor, out to make a buck on my collection, I think now would be the time to sell before all the hype dies down. If you are like me, and love the unusual and mint condition guns of decades past, you'll probably hang onto them for the time being.
Did I ever tell you the story of the Dale Earnhardt trading card I sold back in March of 2001? It was a 2001 issue Press Pass certified autograph card.
If someone wants to give me 400 times what the item is worth in cash, I'll sell it. It happened, and old Dale was probably smiling more then me. He was one of the great entrepreneurs of the name brand.
I'm a huge Dale fan, don't get me wrong. I still have plenty of reminders of that.
If you need the money to live life, you should probably sell.
If you are in for the long haul, and love to tell that guy next to you at the range that your Pre-27 Mag can out shoot his brand new whatever, then by all means keep 'em. I have both shooters and non-shooters, keeps me satisfyed.

My rant is over.

Bought a Sig P-210 for a 850 (like new in box), back in mid
90's. Sold it outright at a gunshow for an even grand a couple
years later. Wish i had that one back.
My first S&W i ever bought with my own money was a 6" nickel
model 19 and can't even remember what i traded it for.
That gun is the reason i'm deaf to this day. As a teenager you
are too tough to need hearing protection. Huh ???
Numerous others too many to even remember.
I traded guns after shooting them awhile and seeing something
else i liked but did'nt have the available cash. Had to be done at
the time so i really don't have too many regrets.
I have got to shoot and own briefly, a lot of fine weapons.

Chuck
