I was handed this Mod 15-2 K-38 Combat Masterpiece,
to try and repair :(

Sad it had been beaten, and battered, rusty and won't go into battery or cock without wiggling the cylinder.

Its not much beyond a wall hanger I'm afraid, as it will cost more to repair it than it's worth: confused:

note the chunk missing out of the left grip.

You may be surprised what a complete disassembly, cleaning and lube would do for that gun. Looks like the cylinder was used as a hammer.

There are certainly some salvageable parts.

I'd wonder if it rusted closed then someone beat it open. I've seen a bent frame result from that and several bent yokes.

I think you're right: this is a wall hanger or parts gun. It's not a realistic candidate for repair or restoration.

I should have considered the title of this thread to be a warning and good advice. Wall hanger? Well... if the frame was not bent and the center pin hole is not wallowed out by whoever beat the cylinder, then it could be turned into a shooter. The cylinder that's on it looks horrible, so fitting a replacement cylinder would be a good idea. A cheap fix? Not really, but it could be done.

That reminds me of an encounter from about a decade ago...

A young guy brought a few guns into our antique arms show with similar damage - Deep gouges in the metal and broken grips. He said he came home to find the door locks changed and his clothes on the curb. When he knocked on the door, his future ex-wife told him to go away and never come back. While he was gathering up his clothes, she threw his guns onto the driveway from their second story bedroom window.

He didn't say what he did to trigger such wrath and I wasn't about to ask.

I had a K22 CM (pre-18) that was bad but not that bad. Most of the dents were around the muzzle with a few on the cylinder. No DA and other malfunctions. I replaced the hammer which had to be fitted to the cylinder bolt. It seemed the geometry was all wrong and a previous owner took his frustrations out on the gun.

After all was said and done it turned out to be a very accurate and reliable 22. I good friend wanted it as a woods carry gun and he has it now. It out shot my 17-2, head to head. Good luck with that old beater. Hopefully you will be surprised in the end.

Asphalt rash and spent time in the rain. Maybe thrown from a moving vehicle? Needs total disassemble, new cylinder, yoke straightening, maybe new H & T, and who knows what else until it gets into competent hands.
