We have carry guns, truck guns, home defense guns, range guns, plinking guns, longe range guns, hunting guns, duck guns, snake guns, black powder guns, and if I have left any category out we have spares to fill the gaps. You really can't have too many guns if you live in Texas.

After seeing so many posts about them at the beginning of the summer season, how could you forget the BBQ Guns category?

Well now, let's see here !
Texas--Texis--Texicans--are not a bunch of loose cannons, running around, drinking beer, sayin "hold mine and watch this"-----well, most of us anywho.
We are, pretty conservative and greatly diverse. If you look at louisiana there is North and South and there is a great gulf between the two.
Texas--and Texicans--are real diverse. There are folks that live behind the Pine Curtain which could dissolve into the OLD South in a heartbeat.
These folks supported the Civil war.
Then there were/are some folks that did not migrate from the US to Texas---they came directly from the OLD countries before it was a state.
They had a different attitude about this war of secession as they did not really consider themselves as American.
You may think that I kid about this---you are incorrect.
The one common thing about Texas and Texicans is we can talk about each other---the rest of youse guys just need to keep your mouths shut until called on.
We are not crazy and we are doing our dead level best to keep youse guys from driving us there.
Blessings

PS---not really much tongue in cheek in this conversation.

My wife was from Beaumont... ;)

Four years ago I was on a 6 week ride around the country trip on my Goldwing motorcycle. I was on a Texas road, after leaving from Carlsbad Caverns on my way to Memphis to see my son who is a homicide detective in Memphis. My rear tire went flat as I drove and of course I pulled over, now stuck on the side of the road.

It was unreal how many people driving by at 65/70 MPH turned around and stopped to offer me any kind of help I needed. A young fella named Roy stopped and said he had a trailer in a field not far from us. I had explained that a tow truck with a flatbed was on the way. He gave me his cell number and told me, if the tow truck does not work out you call me and I will bring the trailer and take you where ever you need to go.

Yes, every person that stopped had a gun in the vehicle either on a rack in their truck or resting on the front seat.

I finally made it to Odessa and a Honda dealer that replaced the tire and I was off to finish my 9004 mile ride.

I later called Roy and told him I was truly grateful for his offer to come back for me and take me anywhere I needed to go.

He said "This is Texas, we help those in need, its what we do" Says a lot for Texas and those who live there.

We had a VERY wet spring. Lots of flooding.
That probably means a lot of boating accidents
That means a lot of guns lost. That's how I lost all of mine.
Those guns have to be replaced.
That's my story and I'm sticking with it.:D

Remember Texas is a huge place and different regions can be very different. West Texas is still pretty much Texas of old, as is most of northeast Texas, and I expect much of south Texas. Then there is Houston, and there is Austin, and there is Dallas Fort Worth, and these places have been so flooded with Yankees, and foreigners, that they are not much like Texas of old any longer.

West Texas has always had very polite, and very well armed people who carried even before concealed carry was legal. You get a more rugged, more individualistic type out there than in the rest of Texas, and they are more used to helping each other rather than looking to government or organizations for help. Mostly with them what you see is what you get.

If they had trees out there I would live there rather than here in northeast Texas.

I agree with Finesse_r post about west Texas.

I lived in west Texas for 5 years and folks there were friendly, armed and downright friendly. Never had an issue and I still say one of the saddest days of my life was getting transferred out of Midland back to Houston. What a great place to live and raise a family.

Drive 30 miles west of Dallas and the west truly begins.

What in most states would be called an large arsenal, in Texas would be called the beginning of a smallish collection. We like our guns, and most places law enforcement and local politicians don't mind as long as you don't shoot the livestock, and don't give tourists the vapors.

You take folks as you find them.
I have not had any experience, living in Houston, where I was in a bind of some kind that someone was not willing to help out. Now, a multitude would drive on by but someone would come to my aid.
Kinda like you and me--I might see someone stranded and drive by because of a commitment that had to be kept, the inability to safely aid, or someone else already there. If the incident seems under control, there is no seeming reason to create a jam.
I am going to start another thread on the subject of Texas in order to unclog this one.

in out state Missouri at least (non KC or StL. areas) it is much the same for people always stopping to help.

Another thing is that back in Texas 's early days, so many Missourians moved there that Texas was considered our most southern & western county... an idea that most educated Missourians still hold dear and know to be true still to this day... we are glad we taught Texans how to BBQ, make & drink beer/ale/hooch.. and how to watch & play baseball & football. Think what Texas would have become without our expert teaching on these vital areas of life.

We've been trying to help our neighbors from Illinois similarly... but so far the only things they've learned from Missourians is how to make decent pizza... their governors are much the same as ours... but never learned to destroy evidence as our's have in the last 50 years...........not joking on that either.
