Would any one know if ceramic can be dressed down?? Have a swivel knife blade that needs to be dressed down from 0.198 to 0.188.. Ceramic is something I have no experience with. Maybe a diamond stone?? THANKS FOR LOOKING.
Steel knives have a hardness of about 6.5 and ceramic knives about 9.5. Diamonds are 10. You will need a fine diamond sharpener. You have a severe chip depth to dress down. Diamond sharpeners are not cheap, so in this case you may want to consider buying a replacement blade and keeping the rough blade for 'risky' cutting with a ceramic blade.
Swivel knives are a leather carving tool. Is this what your referring to?
I always prefer a ceramic blade for use with them:
Sure is. I loved my problem in the early hours today, about 430AM. I have a diamond disk that fits in my Dermel. I was designed to be a cut off tool, and I mostly use it for that, but I am known to think outside the box now and then. I chucked it in the Dremel, secured it in a padded vise sideways and put the blade in a small pair of vise grips tight enough so it wouldnt move. Set the speed about 1/2 way or so and proceeded to keep turning the vise grips keeping the cut square. Took about four try's before it fit the tool. Worked like a charm.
