Drone Mystery?

Depending on distance - SLUGS might be better choice.

A falling slug will have a lower velocity than a 30 caliber rifle slug.

Bekeart

I was flashing back to Physics class and had to look this up.

Here's an AI generated answer:

A falling bullet typically reaches a terminal velocity of around 150-250 feet per second (45-75 meters per second), depending on its size and shape, which means that while it can still cause serious injury, it is significantly slower than when initially fired from a gun due to air resistance; larger caliber bullets generally reach higher terminal velocities than smaller ones.

Key points about falling bullets:

Air resistance:
The primary factor limiting a falling bullet's speed is air resistance, which increases as the bullet falls and eventually balances out the force of gravity, reaching terminal velocity.

Impact potential:
Even at terminal velocity, a falling bullet can still cause serious injury, particularly if it hits a vulnerable area like the head or neck.

Bullet size:
Larger caliber bullets tend to have a higher terminal velocity compared to smaller ones due to their greater mass and surface area.

Danger of celebratory gunfire:
Firing guns into the air can be dangerous as falling bullets can injure people far from the firing location.

I'd think they could switch on a jammer and knock one out of the sky. If they wanted too. Of course 80% of them might drone hunting drones.

They are ours and they are sniffers…really the only semi-logical explanation.

They aren’t rising out of the ocean to probe us, no matter what Tucker Carlson says.

This is where I'm at with it. I believe they are ours and they are looking for something they don't want us to know about. Why else would you fly drones at night? Daytime drones would surely freak everyone out.
The latest theory I heard is there's a nuke missing from somewhere, most likely outside the US and thought to be headed here. Think dirty bomb. The gov't is looking for it but they don't want to tell that to the people.
Its better in the government's eyes to plead ignorance and look stupid than it is to tell the American people the truth. They might be right in that assumption.

Yeah, and now with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission Alerts confirming that radio active material went missing on Dec. 2 in NJ.

"The licensee reported to NJDEP on December 3, 2024, that a Ge-68 pin source that they sent for disposal has been lost in transit on December 2, 2024. The source is a Eckert & Ziegler model HEGL-0132, with current approximate activity of 0.267 mCi. The shipping container arrived at its destination damaged and empty.”

The government would never lie to us though right?

Good grief. https://www.nrc.gov/reading-rm/doc-collections/event-status/event/2024/20241212en.html

"THIS MATERIAL EVENT CONTAINS A 'Less than Cat 3' LEVEL OF RADIOACTIVE MATERIAL

Sources that are "Less than IAEA Category 3 sources," are either sources that are very unlikely to cause permanent injury to individuals or contain a very small amount of radioactive material that would not cause any permanent injury. Some of these sources, such as moisture density gauges or thickness gauges that are Category 4, the amount of unshielded radioactive material, if not safely managed or securely protected, could possibly - although it is unlikely - temporarily injure someone who handled it or were otherwise in contact with it, or who were close to it for a period of many weeks. For additional information go to http://www-pub.iaea.org/MTCD/publications/PDF/Pub1227_web"

FWIW, in his conference talk this morning Trump said that he was certain that the government knows all about the drones and their source. No details provided beyond that.

As somebody who believes in absolute control of all things, he would say that.

What is the government saying that is “moronic”?

Have any confidential sources come forward to declare or confirm that there is some sort of coverup or conspiracy taking place?

t home, and I would ask him where he’d been or what he’d been doing, his answer was always “that’s on a need-to-know basis, and you don’t need to know.”

Well, I don’t need to know exactly what these flying objects are; I need to know what they aren’t

Recent quotes:

There are no drones....
People don't know what they are really seeing (translation...WE are morons)...
It's manned aircraft....
We don't know where they are coming from but we are sure they are not nefarious....
The border is secure...
Camalia is the czar....
I won't pardon....
(these all are NOT moronic???)

Confidential Source to NJ politician:

Iranian mother ship, yada, yada...
We now know what they are but we can't tell you...

Submarines:

I don't need to know the the specific engineering workings. Just knowing that responsible people are taking care of them and that they are out there providing for our security.

Bottom line is that we are being inundated with conspiracy theories because the govmt is lying to us. If they came out and told us (even if it was a lie) we would be calmer.

And on another note, by your recent replies it sure looks like you have a lot of trust in the people in charge.

I really should start checking my pockets.

The drones belong to our government. It's an intelligence test, of which, not many are passing.

Sort of like the Battle of Los Angeles in 1942.

The theory that the drones are on a search mission to detect something such as a nuclear device somehow brought into the country by a hostile entity (take your pick of those) actually does make some sense.

New Jersey, drone sightings solved.

I am not worried about Drones..in NJ?? They maybe deserve 'em...If something flying starts coming this way. I'll start to worry it might be my first wife who had the 13 inch stake driven through her heart after she died. I had my friend...Vinnie...from Philly...take care of that job for me all those years ago..Her sister may have pulled it. Vampires only fly at night

On what basis do you say the government is lying to us? If you know what they've said is a lie, then you must also know the truth...correct? If so, what is the truth, and how do you know it to be true?

Yeah, having worked in the field of public safety for more than a half-century now, I do tend to trust the people in charge of our public safety and national security agencies...and heaven help us if we can't trust them. Does that mean I think they always tell us the truth? No. I'm sure there are many, many things Uncle Sam cannot share with the American public (that's why we have classified material, after all) and our history is full of many incidents where elected and appointed officials have made public statements that later turned out not to be true. But I do trust that our government security officials -- the people who've taken an oath to protect our country, and dedicated their careers and lives to that mission -- are acting with the best interests of the United States as their priority.

Below is the link to the latest government statement on these drone sightings, and I invite all of us to read it carefully. I realize the cynics who think "they" are always "lying" to us won't be swayed, but it looks reasonable, logical, and plausible to me, and I honestly can't find any reason to dismiss it out of hand as bunkum or hogwash. If anyone has contradictory evidence, please share it.

"The Border is Secure". Quote Myorkas. You know that is a lie because of the pictures and videos that are being broadcast, plus the comments being made by our Border agents on sight.

But, OK, I give up. The link published just today has swayed my opinion. I guess we don't have to worry after all. But wait! I have to go back and read it again because I'm not sure what they were trying to say.
