dual illuminated rmr... any feedback for the core?

I would like to have an optic that doesn't rely on batteries. So I like the idea of the dual illuminated rmr.

Also. Without the performance center core having night sights it makes sense.

Any feedback on the dual illuminated rmr? It looks they tend to have larger dots than the battery powered.

Also. What size moa is recommended for a pistol?

We have a 9" green moa dot from trijicon/ RM05g

I have used red dots for just over 30 years on my hunting revolvers. Those were smaller 2" and 3" dots and allowed for good shoot placement 100 yard groups but upclose quick shotos are hard to do when a hog is making a run at you. End up point shooting as it pass's by .

Afer shooting a few different size dots and makes on other folks pistols I decided a 9" dot would work fine for defense needs as it only covers 2 1/4" at 25 yards .

Did my search and found many open class shooters are using dots with 6 to 12moa so gave it a try. I have used green fiber optic front sites on some other handguns for some years and for me it works well in many light conditions and is easy for me to see even in the woods .

I read that the few problems for some with the AMBER dual - illumination rmr was with the amber washing out when shooting from indoors dark to brite out doors can be to brite on a sunny day . Jerry Miculek on one of his m&p videos mentions the tape on a amber rmr he used to block off light to the fiber optic part when he was sponsored my trijicon .Green does not do that.

Our core is a fun and CC pistol as running and gunning is no longer practical for us . Like that there is no or off switch and simply always at the ready. Fiber optic dot for day and tritium insert dot for night.
I would buy another one for a defense or match handgun .

the tritium is what interested me the most. Because it's always on and doesn't rely on any electronics.

i've been at class and have seen guys have issues with their reflex sights turning off while they're doing drills. And i'd prefer something that's just on all the time and is a "mechanical" dot (i know that's not the right terminology).

Looks like you have your pick. See if you can find a deal now. There some really dependable battery powder dot optics too. I used a 1" tube type on my 357 for almost 30 years . Change the battery each year and good to go. Decided to retire that revolver from hunting and swapped to the short 4" barrel for trail gun use and moved the dot to a 22 rimfire rifle and it died . Must have had a broke "heart" after all those year on my 357 !! HA . Now I use my old dw44 revolver with a burris 135 speed dot for hunting for the alst 6 years + years now . Most better brand are rather durable .

Thanks guys. I ended up just getting the 9moa green dot instead of the triangle. It was the safer bet i think. And if i'm not wild about it on the pistol i'll put it on the AR at a 45 for a backup.

I have the JPOINT on my core, it is always on, it does not have an Off/On switch. It is battery powered though.

Like most thangs new it takes some time to give it a chance to grow on you and learn how to work with it . Seems like most guys that get a reflex optic or dot have a learning curve before becoming comfortable with them. Same goes for some that never had a scope to. I have a 1-6 on my ar and on a 1power setting it feels as natural as a dot to me .

i'm sure there will be a learning curve. The one guy i know that has one said it took a while to get used to the way the dot moved.

it was on my radar. but after seeing guys have issues with various slide mounted red dots turning off, i decided if i'm gonna do it then i want one that doesn't take batteries.

in reality this isn't my fighting pistol. it's more of a toy. but i may still use it at a class or two. we'll see.

here it is next to my other 4.25" non-core.

My wife has the RM08G dual-illuminated on her G19 and it's great, except for unequal lighting. If you are in a darker area aiming into a lighter area (like many indoor ranges) the RMR will wash out. I have the RM07 adjustable LED on my M&Pc and I greatly prefer it to the RM08. You just leave it on the auto setting and it adjusts to the lighting perfectly. Battery has been running for about a year so far.

2k2 After getting your dot zero no matter where the dot is as where the bullet will impact. Most today have little if any point shift or parallax issues at least for 25 yards and under.

rob5819 I wonder if your wife has any issues with seeing some colors. That I can see from dark to light well enough with the green. Amber was the one I could not see at all.

I don't think it's a color issue, we both use green dual illuminated Trijicon ACOGs on our rifles with no problems and I have the Accupoint green triangle on a post on another rifle. It could be that our particular RM08G has a problem. It works well if I hold a flashlight near it at the range. It is great in all other situations. I put a green streamlight laser on her G19 and she has been enjoying that over her RMR (she has two slides for the G19, one with the RMR, one without). I'll have to find another RM08G and compare.

the tfo's need a slight windage adjustment but overall i'm pretty pleased.
