Dust cover for the 15-22

Any way to make the bar flush with the outside edges of the base? I just think it will look cleaner..

Thanks!

That would be no problem, but I left the bar long on each side because that's how a full size AR's dust cover is, that's all.

OMGosh! How do I ride the coattails and get one made for me? That is VERY impressive. Not only do you have mad fabrication skills, but you seem to have mad computer skills!

Looks awesome dude!! I think the plastic look of that cover fits with the overall look of the rifle very nicely. What is the Derlin stuff you speak of? Where do you get it?

Its a type of plastic, Delrin is actually a trade name by Dupont. The technical name is Polyoxymethylene, also known as acetal. There are a thousand different places you can buy it, for example > Order Plastic Plate, Round, Sheet Alloys Acrylic, GPO-3, HDPE, Polycarbonate, Polypropylene, Teflon, UHMW in Small Quantities at OnlineMetals.com < where you can buy it in rods or sheets. Another place i've used is > DELRIN® - DELRIN Sheet & Delrin Rod- Order Online

I use it making my weapon suppressors for barrel collars for two point mount reflex type suppressors. Its good stuff.

I got the Kydex and made my first casting with the mold. Unfortunately the sheet I got was too thick:(. I wanted some thickness for strength and thought .093 was a good bet, but it was just too thick to really work with. I bought another sheet of the Kydex in .06, so hopefully that will be more workable. The new sheet should be here at the end of the week.

I found a plastic sign in my basement last night, originally I wanted to keep it for what it was ( caution: keep hands away from moving machinery ) but apparently it had been leaned up against my furnace vent and kinda molded to it, whoops. Anyway, the plastic is just about the right thickness, im going to experiment with it. I want to think of a way i can heat up the bottom edge, and roll it into shape for the paper clip section.

Paint - how did you keep the clip piece in the cover? does the pen spring have just enough tension to hold it in place or did you capture it with something

The pin stays in the hinge because there is enough friction to keep it there. The hinge loops are small so it's a snug fit, but not too tight that it impedes the operation of the hinge.

Try delrin. It's a great machinable material, long lasting and durable. It is primarily used for gears and grinders but I've been trying to shape one out of delrin I got from Delrin Sheet, Delrin Rod, Acetal Sheet and Acetal Rod | Industrial Plastic Supply, Inc.. It's coming along and hopefully I can get it done soon. Wish me luck

I'm sure Delrin is real good stuff, I just don't have the tools to work with it. The Kydex has proven to work very well as a material and I'm more set up to work with it.

Definitely keep us updated on your progress. When you are ready or have some pictures of your progress, start up a new thread and show us :)

There is a long thread on the delrin dustcover:
