A provision in the New York Safe Act kicked in today 1/15/14 prohibiting all internet sales of ammunition (except for FFL Holders) for any individuals. The record check provision is delayed because the state police have no data system currently in place to perform such checks. It was also announced that once the checks start, there will be a $20 fee for all ammo background checks, whether you buy one round or several boxes. And when the background checks start there will be no person to person ammo sales allowed without a check. Gone will be the days of "Hey Bill I can't make it to the gun show, can you pick me up several boxes of ammo"? It will be a crime to do so. I feel safer already.

What is the fee for just a background check? Is it more or less? It wouldn't be so bad if you were able to buy as much as you want (1000rds).It reminds me of years ago when liquor stores were run by the State.Maybe this will be N.Y.'s next step.

Does this also mean that any ammo you already own will have to be registered? Frankly I think N.J did people a favor by slowing their access into N.Y.!

Disgusting, plain and simple. I moved from New York's Long Island in 1966, returned for one summer, and then never returned. One of my finest decisions in my life. I feel very sorry for the people of NY that have to live under such oppression. My blessing for those that move away from that political toilet! And to those oppressors, what goes around comes around.

A people get the government they deserve.

Simplistic response to a tough situation. NY is one of those states with a distinct population split with most of the political power coming from a heavily regulated urban area.

An there in lies he basis for a legal challenge.

Living in Upstate NY is far different than Downstate NYC. There is an outcry up here that is getting attention and movement. The 7 round only rule got knocked out (for now) but we aren't finished yet. Getting King Cuomo out of office will be a priority in the up comming elections for 2014. This whole thing was typical of Democrats trying to win elections. Cuomo actually thought that getting his gun control agenda in ahead of Obama would give him a spring board to the 2016 presidential election. I had to send my hi cap magazines out of state for safe keeping or face ex post facto unconstitutional charges and possible revocation of my pistol permit. It's a bunch of BS that what was once grandfathered is now illegal. We will continue to fight the good fight and get this thing over turned. The sheeple downstate can go pound, us upstaters will prevail in the end.

Given the above how do people feel about those "hoarders" now? For the rest of the country we could be next so get off your backsides and get into this fight or you will be suffering like our friends in NY.

Two Words - ROAD TRIP!

I disagree. It's a well orchestrated effort by the liberals. Coming soon to a State near you. There is nothing knee jerk about it.

I completely agree. No matter the state you live in, you better get it while you can. For the time being, Ohio is still among the Free States and western New York is next door. C'mon down, we'll leave the light on for you.

The fee for a background check is per actual purchase. If one could buy all the ammo they wanted that still would not be good, but most store like Walmart and our area gun shops limit the purchase to 3 boxes per day so you will be paying a lot more per box when you figure in the background check fee. Three small boxes of 22'S @ $2.47 a box plus a $20 background gets real expensive.
The ammo one now owns is not subject to a background check or has to registered like you asked. This will apply only to all new ammo purchases when the State Police data system gets up and running. It will also be illegal to buy ammo between individuals without a background check and the $20 fee. I personally have been buying up all the ammo that I use now and for the future to put off the pending fees. Todays newspaper said the anti-gun people want even more stricter gun and ammo control than is presently on the books now. It is not looking good for us law abiding folks here in New York.

Sounds like a perfect set-up for an ammo smuggling operation. Wouldn't be hard to bring in ammo from Ohio and Pennslvania. Sort of like bootlegging in the South or rum running during prohabition.
I left western NY over 40 years ago and don't intend to go back except to visit my parents graves, maybe.

Huh. I had no idea about the $20 fee. I suspect this accounts for a substantial amount of the .22lr shortage we've seen in the last year.

I dont think anyone is angry at "Hoarders" just the GREEDY ammo flippers.
