Ever wondered why people sell certain guns?

So, to me it looks like somebody's impatience got me a modern, barely used, optics ready pistol for $350 including shipping. Watcha gonna do?

The retail price of the gun I got is about $400-$480. Unless the original buyer got it at a wholesale price about half that, they took a major bath money wise.

$100-$150 or so isn't really a "major bath" in absolute terms to a lot of people.

Life just changes. I have several unfired guns. I planned on shooting them but it just did not happen. A couple of them were my Dad’s. De Ja Vue

For me, needed the money or just had to have something else and didn't have the total amount so I traded the ones I could do without. I do have some sellers remorse from a few over the years but, that's the way it goes...

I recently bought a pistol that was only shot box of 50. Lifespan only lasted until statement from credit card arrived. Little woman hit the warpath. I’ve bought several guns that guys bought for HD and when they got them home there was problems about gun in house, kids, ect. All these were first time gun buyers and young.

About a year or two ago, I bought a 10" Ruger Single Six in .22LR/.22 Magnum simply because I thought it looked cool... I brought it home, and it sat on a shelf until I sold it this past weekend for $25 more than I paid for it... Still in factory plastic bag and oil... It just never really endeared itself to me...

Taken a loss here or there

Back in the day I used to get all my handguns at a dealer that is now out of business. I’d get the bug to buy something and would trade something in.

As time went by I joined this forum and had great luck getting into guns I wanted and selling ones that sat. And sometimes you just want to change it up.
Been a revolver guy in most of my range shooting and CCW but had a chance to play with a Sig Sauer X-Five Legion - man that gun is fast and what a fantastic trigger for some range fun.

In fact I’ve been contemplating selling a few on here as I know
- that someone will appreciate it more than me
- it will be used for enjoyment versus sitting in the safe

The only gun I ever regretted selling was my first gun
A Target all 19-6 4” blue

I’ve since lucked into a beauty 19-5 4” blue and stole from a local show a 19-3 P&R blue with lots of character but tight function and Jordan grips for $350 last summer

Lately I’ve been jonesing to try the whole optic thing too. My eyesight ain’t what it used to be.

I appreciate and understand those who keep all their guns and I understand and appreciate those who mix it up as I am in that boat - life is about choices and to each their own!

I sell because my collecting focus changes, because I don't like or use a particular gun, because I want to buy something and sell a gun or two to finance the purchase etc.

The better question would be why they bought them in the first place. Impulse buying it was in front of them and they had that bug itching them.

It's worth noting that there are hundreds of thousands of first time gun buyers within the past couple of years. I'm sure there are a lot of reasons for the jump in first time buyers, I also think that many of those impulse buyers probably got over the gun buy rush pretty quickly and are now selling.

Great opportunity for some deals.

Having been thru cars, motorcycles, guitars, guns, and more... I am now immune to the thrill of the chase. Still do it, just don't act on it. The thrill of research is reward enough.

Every now and again I realize that something I've looked into actually makes sense. Then I might buy one.

Selling is almost always a bigger hassle than buying!

I sold an AMT Backup in .45 because the firing pin broke. Not the tip but the middle? It broke at it’s weakest spot, where a trigger safety radius was cut and a long relief to limit the travel was. Started out at 1/4 inch dia and ended up only a quarter of that size. Why make both cuts in the same spot? Replaced the pin and had a bud with an ffl sell it. I actually liked it too but you’ve got to trust your edc.

The average time for anything in my safe is one year.
It's rare that a firearm resides up to 2 years but I've forgot about a few and sold them years later.
I don't buy or sell any junk but I've been duped twice here.
I'll fix to as original as possible before it goes to a new caretaker.

I’ve owned hundreds of gun, my Bro is always hacking on me when he sees a Luger, S&W Russian, Styre Rifle, whatever that I had and traded. I managed to end up with a good horde but I traded and sold many getting here. I wish I had kept certain ones, yes. From money stand point hind sight is 20/20. If I hadn’t traded and sold I would never had the enjoyment of owning and using them. I think When game is over and we add up the score, I will have broke even. Cant ask for more than that.

What did Col Townsend Whelen say? “Only accurate rifles are interesting”
I only keep interesting rifles, that can be said about my handguns and shotguns too!

I have known a few men who sold their guns for drinking money, because I was the lucky buyer.

I regretfully traded in a lot of really nice S&W's when I got bit by the trapshooting bug. I was limited by the money I could spend on this hobby and as most of you know a decent trapgun is dramatically more costly than most handguns.
