Every day for this entire year I will post a old school printed gun advertisement.

A friend of mine has a "Virginian".

Here's a picture supplied from the Hämmerli factory back in the 1970s.
Shown are:
-MP33 free pistol, made from 1933 until 1948
-model 150 free pistol, made from approx. mid 70s to 1980s
-Dakota single action. One of the big turn-offs was the huge goofy hammer safety (look at the big screw near the top!) needed to comply with GCA68 import rules.

1966

From 1966, more high end goodies from Europe. Advertised in the UIT Journal.

1) Walter Gehmann offered the Mauser 66 rifle with interchangeable barrels.
2) Gehmann also offered drillings and "bockbüchsflinte", both mixing shotgun and rifle barrels on one gun. Also, very nice single shot rifle, the "kipplaufbüchsen".
3) The Vom Hofe line of cartridges are excellent sporting cartridges rarely encountered stateside.
4) An excellent rifle for 300 meter "free rifle" competition. This very difficult event was formerly an Olympic event. The 300 meter range facilities were difficult logistically for host cities. It is still shot internationally. This was briefly a popular target match in the USA back in the 1920s. Julian Hatcher was a big proponent.
5) The very nice Finnish Lion smallbore target rifle. Certainly on par with Anschütz.

1977

As a contrast to the rich environment of journals and magazines from the 50s and 60s, including foreign language press, there is the popular American gun press of the 70s. Often entertaining, on occasional informative, and sometimes shamelessly mercenary, there are a few goods ads (and articles!!) here and there.
I found these from Guns & Ammo 1977, amongst page after page of ads for booze, cigarettes & chewing tobacco, tires, and just plain junk.
Elmer Keith was still executive editor, and found in this issue was his test review of the Wickliffe falling block rifle, along with good articles and columns by Jeff Cooper, Col. Charles Askins, Howard French, and J.B. Wood. (Wood's take on the famous Semmerling LM-4 .45 ACP manually operated four-shooter is great!)

1) Some nice Weatherbys dressed in beautiful wood.
2) Monson, MA era Dan Wessons. Dan Wesson was a forward thinker like Roy Weatherby, and also made a very nice product.
3) Leupold pistol scopes are still tough, dependable and equipped with clear optics.
4) OK, uhh, I'm guessing there's not an RG Collectors Forum? These were made in Germany by Rohm. Numrich actually still sells parts for them!
5) Gee Whiz, where can I get some of these Remington benchrest target bullets....for under $10 a hundred? ;)

1967

These are from Shooting Times Apr. 1967.
The cover story is by Skeeter Skelton, who tests the new snubbie S&W Combat Magnum.
1) The first ad is for the brand new Thompson-Center Contender pistol. Initial chamberings: 22 rimfire (S. L. LR.), 22 WMR, 22 Jet, 22 Hornet, and 38 Special. Barrels (all interchangeable) made by Douglas.
2) Surprisingly, the very next page features a full review of the same pistol!
3) Gotta love Numrich, aka Gun Parts Corp.!
4) Check out the NRA ad! Have times changed!
5) RCBS ad featuring their excellent A-2 press, predecessor to the famous Rockchucker press.

Happy Black Friday Sales.......here in Australia. Albeit, the average Aussie has no idea that Black Friday is the day after Thanksgiving and the start of Xmas Shopping in the US.

Speaking of shopping, I've been out today looking at a Used Beretta 85FS and S&W Model 64-3.

Here is today's selection.

Happy Thanksgiving!

I thought I'd include some Christmas related ads as they cross my path.

1) OK, it's not an ad. But, I always get a laugh from this cover!
2) Dillon have always been ad-savvy. So, their Christmas ads are both eye-catching and quite informative. 1985.
3) Stylish ad from 1962 Shooting Times.
4) Lee Christmas ad 1985.
5) "Merry Christmas! I got you the fugliest gun ever made!"
(But, it's the thought that counts.)

Starting off with a nice Christmas ad from Interarms. :) 1978.

The rest are from 1984.
-H&K carbine. Very popular 80s era semi-auto carbine. Superb quality.
-Ruger Ranch rifle. Variant of the Mini-14. I'd like to try one in .222 Remington!
-The Thompson-Center TRC/83. A great idea that didn't quite work out. Handled fast, like a shotgun, in the style of European stalking rifles. Strong lock-up design. Nice double set trigger. Pretty sharp looking. Quite a few had erratic accuracy issues, though.
-Perhaps the most iconic Dillon ad of the 1980s, for the RL-450. There was no popularly available internet then, and Dillon didn't sell through the usual retail distributor system. They did a booming business through mail-order and word-of-mouth. Oh yeah, and offering an amazing product at attractive prices, with excellent customer service.

AJ & MooMoo,
Great stuff! I remember a lot of the 80s goodness!

The Remington police gun ad is rarely seen. Remington was pretty careful about not letting the police and consumer markets get mixed.
Do you realize that if we each keep doing 5 ads a day (including today), we'll show over 500 ads just amongst the three of us by the end of the year?

Yes, I realize how many we can put up between now and the end of the year, My first post on this thread was Post 2 and my first with an ad was Post 13. Moo Moo's was Post 19. I wonder how many he and I have put up since then? Still have more than enough printed material sitting around to draw from. Won't put up any Christmas until December. All I can really say is I hope everyone is enjoying what we are doing and I think they do with 19,400 views as of this posting
