Every day for this entire year I will post a old school printed gun advertisement.

Here are a few more ads from some Aussie publications. Prices are in Australian Dollars ($AUD). At the moment, the exchange rate is $1 AUD = $0.71 USD.

Just for Laughs

While searching through journals and finding ads and articles I fondly remember, in the back of my mind I also noticed the ones that unintentionally always made me laugh. Some of these ads ran for decades, yet were so over-the-top, hokey, or tacky that they stayed buried in my subconscious after all these years.
I had no trouble finding a motherlode of them. These are just a few!
By the way, no offense intended! For all I know, some of these ads might be for very good products. What I do know, is that, for me, the entertainment value of the ads themselves is great!
Enjoy!

1) Who can forget the timeless "Blowgun Ad" featuring shirtless guy and his dead anteater dangling in the air? Has any ad ever packed so much into such a tiny space?
2) Raiders of the Lost Ark, Rambo, Dirty Harry....just a few of the movies that inspired spin-off product merchandising. (I passed over several Rambo survival knife ads.)
3) Right up there with "blowgun guy", was cigar-smoking BB machine gun guy!
4) I'm sure there's a collectors forum for these (not!).
5) You know it's classy when you can say "I got it from the Franklin Mint!".

Found some more Christmas ads. I am finding that the newer magazines do not have as many Christmas ads in them. Loosing the Christmas Spirit as time goes by?

I am currently on the hunt for a 6" Stainless Security Six. If you have one to part with or know where I can find one, please let me know.

In the mean time here are a couple of vintage Ruger advertisements. These were produced between 1972 and 1988.

Here are some more ads. Getting closer to the end of the year. Feel free to jump in with more ads.

More from 1985..... Guns Magazine.

1) S&W tout their 686 options
2) Steyr AUG. Another classic "action movie" gun from the 80s. Also, an awesome firearm design!
3) T/C muzzleloaders: an affordable American made gun to get into black powder.
4) Clean scope mounts from Conetrol
5) As Guns Magazine shared ownership with American Handgunner, it was obvious to use the same gun giveaway promotional idea. Curiously, this particular issue had the included ad, this giveaway, and a very favorable review!

Thought I might add in a few knife ads. Look how young Cold Steel Lynn Thompson is in the last ad.

Reloading items from 1960. I have the powder funnel and use it. My Father used it in the late 1950's and gave it to me in 1973. I still use it. I did find one at a gun show in Pa. that was NIB and paid a whole $1.00 for it. So I have a back up.

1982

MooMoo,
I remember the Urban Skinner. One ad by Cold Steel I can't find depicted a skinny little guy standing over the body of a big thug, with a caption I dare not repeat....

Anyhow, here's a few from 1982:

1) Before the re-opening of surplus importation a couple years later, this was one of the few ways to get an M1.
2) Always loved those Ruger cutaway ads!
3) Remington .22....Made in the USA.
4) MS Safari Arms made some nice custom and semi-custom pistols, including their 1911s and an XP-100 type bolt action pistol with optional electronic trigger.
5) OK, I couldn't resist including this funny T-shirt ad, with the "Big Mac Attack" and "Peace through Superior Firepower" motifs!

From Shooting Times Handgun Annual 1987

1) S&W "magnum" ad
2) Ruger P85. good value in a 9mm. They were also rarely available in 30 Luger!
3) Springfield Armory 1911
4) Bausch & Lomb. Really nice looking ad with Freedom Arms 83 in 454 Casull.
5) T/C Contender Armor Alloy II. Armor Alloy was their proprietary plating. For some bizarre reason, the barrels and frames were not exactly interchangeable between the blued and plated models. But, you could pay gunsmiths like Bellm to modify them to be interchangeable.

PS: nice vintage ads, you guys! Keep'em coming!

Some ads from 1965. I have had Unertl Scopes on my match rifles, but found them to be tedious to use. I have switched to Lyman Scopes as they are more user friendly. I have several Tyler T Grips that are NIB in my collection, never have felt the need to use them, though others love them. I have had a couple of the Star Presses in my collection, have one as I did not feel that I needed to have two of these on display.

Anschütz

AJ, top of the line gear: Unertl, Tyler T-grip, Star reloader!

This is from Anschütz, 1985. It'll be a two part entry spread over today and tomorrow.
I could never even dream if owning an Anschütz when I was a 9 yr old kid starting out with smallbore rifle.
Today includes sporting, "budget", silhouette, air, and intermediate match rifles.

If you love Anschütz rifles, or are just curious, this video is a must-see. Made in 1956 to commemorate the 100 year Centennial anniversary of the company. It's incredible to see them fabricate everything in house from raw materials and take it all the way to the firing of the factory test target.

I have had a couple of Match 54's (in two different configurations 1413 & 1416 IIRC) and two Match 64's). Nice rifles, and they shot well.

Are you collecting cutlery?

I've got some budget stuff. Nothing to higher quality. Plus I'm running out to vintage/retro gun ads.

How do we get this thread put on the weekly The Ampersand email? I would have thought this thread would have the length and depth to get approval for it.
