Every guy whipped out their knives!

Been carrying knives for 60 years, I note that when I carried a Boy Scout knife, then a Demo knife, then a Swiss Army knife the can opener got the most use. My folding knife is usually a letter opener, use the back of the blade, read years ago in a gun magazine if you want to dull a good knive quickly use it as a letter opener, paper is very hard on knife blades.

Dad gave me my 1st knife when I was five or six years old with the admonishment of "Don't cut towards yourself Boy!". He also showed me the proper way to open and close it as well as how to sharpen and maintain it.
That was near 66 years ago. If I'm wearing pants (All pants have pockets - right?), I ALWAYS have at least one knife on me and it's usually two - but sometimes more (depends on the anticipated day's activities!). I feel positively naked without at least one of my pocketknives!
I still remember my friends proudly showing new knives throughout grades 1 thru 12. Can't do that anymore!
Folding and belt knives have far more uses than for defense.

I actually carry two knives ever day. One is a regular pocket knife (usually a Spyderco Delica K390 or a Marbles large Stockman (Gladstone, MI, USA) and the other is a mini Key Chain size Swiss Army Knife so I have a scissors, nail file, small screwdriver, toothpick and tweezers as well as the almost useless 1" blade. The blade itself is not why I carry it- lol.

Here is my Gerber folding money clip. It uses box cutter blades. Very easy to change out the blade. I have given many away to friends. They are very inexpensive and handy. I think I paid 10 bucks or so on Amazon.

I received my first pocketknife for my 5th birthday. I can count on 2 hands the days I have not had a pocketknife on me at all times. The Leatherman does not count as I use that blade as a paint and gasket scraper and sacrificial. My blades are shaving sharp. Working in the construction industry I have lost or destroyed literally dozens of knives. I collect antique folder from days in the past when a man was as proud of his knife as he was about his kids. None of this plastic stuff of today. The exception was the fancy celluloid scale of the past. Never trust a man that does not carry a knife or trust a man with a sharp pocketknife because both are symbols of a man that does not work for a living.

Over the years my dad gave me 90% of the many knives I own.

He died August of 2021.

My 86 year old mom surprised me with this one Christmas day this year.

Just saw this on another forum. I am not capable of posting a link so I will just re-type it. The following was a post that also contained a photograph of an old Schrade old timer pocketknife.
' So, who are the kind of men who carry pocketknives these days? They are the type of men who work hard for a living, fix what is broken, and stand fearless in the face a world full of evil. To put it simply, they are the type of men that I feel the world needs more of. If you find yourself in a tight spot and need some help, just ask the guy with a pocketknife. Although they are few and far between these days, chances are he can and will be able to help you out".

Man I got in trouble in kindergarten for carrying one of those key ring knives, the one with the file, bottle opener and straight blade. I learned then to practice don't ask don't tell. Sure I started carrying again maybe around 4th grade and have carried every since. Don't understand how any man can live without one.

I live in the south and when a baby boy is born, the Doc puts a pocket knife in his hand... :)

Below are the knives that most often go with me where ever I go. One of the two Leathermans is carried more often than the Benchmade South Fork folder (one of several Benchmades that may get occassionally used).

Both of the Leathermans are among the smallest, most spartan, and easiest carried of Leatherman tools (other than their "keychain" options). Both have blades that can be opened without unfolding the tools. Both have pliers, screw driver bits' and are overall quite thin. The larger one is called a Skeletool and the smallest the Juice. The Juice was discontinued for quite a while, but now some models are back in production. The larger skeletool has a pocket clip, but usually just ends up dropped into my left front pocket.

I acquired my first fixed blade by redeeming Popsicle bags. Still have it. Don't remember the first folder. I carried a Case Trapper for a long time including all through Basic Training in clear violation of the rules. Today, there's a Spyderco Endura clipped to my waistband and a Leatherman Juice in my pocket.

Lately, I've been carrying three…a Randall Triathlete in my boot, a Benchmade Barrage clipped to my right front pocket, and a Leatherman Crunch in my left front pocket. The only one I actually use is the Crunch. I like the small footprint when it's folded, and the locking vise grip pliers are mighty handy.

I've been carrying a knife since I was about six. I remember picking one out of the One Dollar Case display at the General Store near my Grandfather's farm. :D
I feel plumb nekkid without one. :(
It wasn't nothing on a day in school for a teacher to need to open a box or something and turn to the class and ask "Who's got a knife?" Three quarters of the boys in the room would stand right up and dig into their pocket. Some of the girls too. ;)

Spyderco Police. This is one of the original aluminum versions which was discontinued in the early 1980s. It's been all over the World and back and faithfully cut everything from ammo can straps to salmon. Can't believe they discontinued making such an awesome knife ☹️
