Because your original premiss is incorrect. Not everyone has one. Haven't owned a J-frame in something like 20 years. After chronographing what ammo actually does out of a 1-7/8" barrel, then watching both cops and civilians trying to qualify with J-frames...and fail when shooting double action...I've decided they just aren't worth all the hoop-la.

As with everything in this life, YMMV!

Question, why cant you qualify with J-frames?

Maybe because cops are some of the lousiest shooters out there!!! Trust me I know first hand with 20 years experience as a master LEO firearms instructor. They just don't like to take the time to practice!!! In my department we classify j-frames as back up / off duty weapons. I designed a 50 round course of fire to include the 3,5,7 and 15 yd firing lines, to include a reload at the 15 yd line. the course includes 2,3 and 5 round courses of fire. This takes in consideration of the five round cylinder wheel guns.

Another problem I had as chief firearms instructor at my department was money. The sheriff didn't have the extra money to give me for ammo for practice periods for the deputies. That is a shame, even though we don't have a Dodge City jurisdiction! Practice, practice and more practice makes for best results after a gun fight!!!

Thank you. oh by the way what is an LEO Firearms instructor?

I purchased an M&P 340 yesterday, can't wait to shoot it. Mine can in a cardboard box, I see some photos with a hard blue case? Which should the gun have come in?

My J's

Here's my three J's, a 36 with 3" barrel and square butt, a 642-1 no lock and a 60 that's carried a lot.

Available through S&W

A short run of em were made available through S&W as "reissue" Centennials , Mod 40-1, with grip saftey. I think Doug Turnbull did the color case hardening for them. Still see one once in a while on Gunbroker, they did a really nice job on em I think.
