Everybody has one, why not show them?...J-Frames

I've always loved that finish, usuall see it on single action revolvers. Never saw it on a jframe before, this could be very damaging to my budget hehe

I have shown a lot of my J frames earlier in this thread...today I will show the gun that I believe to be the best of the best..beating out even my 3" model 60. I have shot a lot of J frames this year trying to find the one that is the most effective in the most situations. The winner is the model 649-3 in 357 mag. Shown here as I just bought it I have used it with CT grips, combats, and boot grips in an ankle holster, pocket holster and IWB.
For my personal protection it doesn't get any better. NO IL. 2" SS frame.
It hits what I shoot at. My 2nd favorite is right behind it.. the 638 or 38 which makes a nicer pocket carry.

Maybe because cops are some of the lousiest shooters out there!!! Trust me I know first hand with 20 years experience as a master LEO firearms instructor. They just don't like to take the time to practice!!! In my department we classify j-frames as back up / off duty weapons. I designed a 50 round course of fire to include the 3,5,7 and 15 yd firing lines, to include a reload at the 15 yd line. the course includes 2,3 and 5 round courses of fire. This takes in consideration of the five round cylinder wheel guns.

Another problem I had as chief firearms instructor at my department was money. The sheriff didn't have the extra money to give me for ammo for practice periods for the deputies. That is a shame, even though we don't have a Dodge City jurisdiction! Practice, practice and more practice makes for best results after a gun fight!!!
Thank You very much for this input. For a while I was wondering that there was a problem with the gun and that was the reason. Wow, thanks again.

A short run of em were made available through S&W as "reissue" Centennials , Mod 40-1, with grip saftey. I think Doug Turnbull did the color case hardening for them. Still see one once in a while on Gunbroker, they did a really nice job on em I think.

Were they issued as Classic Editions which all had a case colored version of the J frames available?

I carry a 642 now already wanting a 640 & there is just something about every 686 i see on here that is begging me to own one

I poster a pic here about 2 years ago. Since then I've made a new owb holster for my carry snubby and a flashlight holder.
I'm still using the same pocket holster. It was the first thing I ever made out of leather. I cut the leather with a pair of sturdy scissors, poked the stitch holes with a scratch awl and stitched it with blind cord and craft needles. Now I can't seem to be able to make anything without using 3 tool boxes full of leatherworking equipment.

Picked up this pretty little 60 no dash last week. Have a couple others as well...but the newest is always the best
