Everybody has one, why not show them?...J-Frames

I grabbed this Model 51 up a few years back, not new but possibly unfired ... I have been meaning to take this one out for quite while!

Tipoc, those are really pretty stocks on that 34. What are they? I now realize my 34 could use something nice.

tipoc,

Your M34-1 is a beauty, looks like new. The stocks are very nice and look like Vintage Herretts.

Your gun is at least from 1966 or later since it doesn't have a flat latch. Do you still have the original stocks and do they have a large diamond around the screw hole?

Yes they are an older set of Herretts. I believe they still make the same style.

They are Herretts and older. I'll have to look and see if I have the originals or not, I don't think I do.

Looks very nice- almost like the matte finish S&W puts on their 442's nowadays. What finish was applied after the glass bead blast job?
I've been thinking for some time about putting a beadblast matte blue finish on one of my M36's. The cylinder is already matte blue, I re-did it due to a couple big blotches of blue missing which looked horrible. I used oxpho blue after blasting and t turned out pretty good- kinda greenish for a while until it cured (or whatever). I've actually done the cylinders on three different guns like that due to blue damage, and they all turned out OK.

The finish is black oxide, applied by a local shop that specializes in that finish. They do work for several local gunsmiths, and at one time Kahr Arms/Auto Ordnance along with many manufactures of machined parts

What do they charge for that finish? Is it similar to the finish S&W puts on their new 442's?
Like I said, it looks really nice. A spray-on finish like Gunkote etc sounds good, but I've seen some that didn't come out very well. A "process" like this oxide or parkerizing seems like a better idea.

My first and only S&W J-Frame 640-3 38/357. It's got an Uncle Mike's Grip, an Apex Tactical Carry Spring set, and I have a HiViz Fiber Optic front sight on the way.

I also did a lot of research on what others have said about the model, so I removed the trigger lock as well.
