Many of you probably know that forum member peh_7 fabricates steel guide rods for 3rd gen pistols. I purchased one from him earlier this summer (for my 4506-1) and I'm 100% satisfied with the purchase.
Paul's design forgoes the two-piece "staked" design for more of a solid setup--which seems better/more robust, by my logic. Moreover, the end of the rod is nicely polished and sits more flush with the muzzle face (as in, it doesn't protrude like the standard rod--or at least the standard rod on my gun). So... it definitely looks great.
And it shoots great... perfect function in ~50 rounds.

Thanks, Paul! And don't hesitate to purchase one of these from him if you need a guide rod for your 3rd gen!
