Experimenting with Wilson Spring Kits

I've been experimenting with Wilson Spring Kits in a Model 64. Buffalo Bore Heavy .38 Special +P has fired reliably with all weight springs. Winchester 38 Special Super Match 148 Grain Lead-Wad Cutter has had light primer strikes with double action. Moving from 12 to 13 pounds reduced the precentage of failures. I haven't bumped up to the 14 pound spring yet. I'm assuming the Buffalo Bore doesn't have a hard primer, but from my googling, it doesn't seem like Winchester primers are especially hard.



Are there any other things I should consider when tweaking springs?

Your rebound spring only drives the trigger forward.
Your main is what powers the hammer. If you have a light main spring, you can get light primer hits. You can also get light primer hits if your strain screw is backed out, or has been shortened. If you have an internal firing pin, you may need an extended one.

Make sure your main is a full power mainspring. Double check your strain screw to make sure it's tight. Examine your firing pin nose to make sure it isn't broken or damaged.

If you are still getting light hits and suspect your strain screw has been shortened. You can either get a replacement, or back it out and place a fired primer between the tip of the screw and the front of the mainspring.
