Favorite Non S & W Handgun?

Monte Christo # 2 LOL

You have mighty fine taste in cigars. There's nothing that comes close to a cigar from the "Motherland". I have six humidors crammed full (in case there's a zombie outbreak) of those Cuban goodies.
Besides a police trade in Glock 22 the farthest I've strayed from S&W is this Colt 1991A Gov't 1911. Every safe needs at least one!!

This one is my favorite Colt, I wish I had more to choose from.

Don't you wish this one could talk and tell its history. There are some beautiful firearms in here but they look like they have lived a gentile life of casual wear and paper punching. I admire guns like yours. My favorite is a pre war Colt Woodsman that sleeps in a Heiser flap holster. Mine was well used when I got it and it got a whole lot more used. It looks about as used as yours with little bluing left, and the checkering on the walnut grips, beaten flat. I can not guess it early life but I have had it on my hip for 40 years and was my constant companion while escorting deer and elk hunters. I will not tell stories of our adventures as others will either call me a liar or braggart, which I am neither.

Tough call

ok... I will play... as best I can without cheating... kind of...

Captured P.38

My favorite non S&W pistols was taken from a German Hauptmann POW during the Normandy campaign. The 3rd Armored Division soldier who acquired it from the POW at Normandy choose to carry this over his issued 1911 until he returned home many many months after VE day. During the Battle of the Bulge and other engagements, he would always sleep with it on top of his bed roll at night.

I have plenty of information regarding the history from the veteran who is still living. This veteran is also mentioned in a number of books about the Battle of the Bulge plus he has written his own memoirs. I do have a rather lengthy story of his when at Normandy I would be happy to post if anybody is interested, but I am not sure if this is the correct forum for that.

As for the firearm itself, all numbers are matching and the bore is remarkably nice. However, it shows the type of wear expected for a sidearm carried during war. It's not the prettiest pistol, but to me it is the most significant pistol I own.

I have posted one of the veteran's stories here: http://smith-wessonforum.com/138936837-post1.html
