Favorite Range Bag?

Well that makes it useless to me. Dang.

Somebody needs to make a range bag oriented towards revolvers. It's most of what I shoot. Realistically, for me, two guns and 300-400 rounds of ammo is all I want to carry in a single bag.

I occasionally shoot some autos but I really don't need a bunch of magazine pockets. I use the GunMate 1919687 Range Bag. I've had it for years and it's held up perfectly for such an inexpensive bag. Less than $30 on Amazon. I paid like $20 years ago. It's just the right size if you only take two guns.

I use a tool bag from lowes or home depot sometimes, especially when I am doing a basic pistol safety course. No magazine pockets but it does have pockets for small items, and will hold the 100 round sleeves of cci ammo and they can haul a ton of ammo. I would recommend wheelguns in at least a gun sock or pouch for transport.

I have a range bag that’s branded “Michaels of Oregon”, But I believe it’s an Uncle Mikes product. It’s very well made and it has held up well over the 15+ years I’ve owned it. It has a shoulder strap and 2 large side pockets one of which holds a built in pistol rug. It’s got plenty of space for all your typical range gear plus guns and ammo.

theyre one in the same.

So I guess a range bag falls under carry gear? Anybody use a range bag or have a favorite model?

I have a 5-11 large range bag at home. I also have a GPS brand medium at my daughters in Fla. I really like that one its a smaller size than my 5-11 and has spots for eyes ears, cleaning kit, etc and slots for magazines too. great size they make a medium and a large.

I have used an LA Police Gear large Bailout Bag for several years. They make (or at least used to) two sizes. I got the larger one. It holds ammo, stapler, loaded pistol magazines, extra red dot batteries, and a few basic tools. Handguns go in individual cases as do long guns. Loaded AR and 15-22 magazines go in plastic ammo cans. Each can will hold eight magazines. I ususally also take one or two of those Tidy Cat buckets, but mine are targets rather than containers. They're fun to shoot and watch them jump around. Empty laundry detergent bottles work well for that purpose, too.

For the last few years I have been using a Boyt range bag, that I won at a Friends of NRA dinner. It is sufficiently large enough to handle two full size handguns (in padded sleeves included), 500 rounds for each gun, muffs, a few tools I always carry and some room left over. It has the double zipper opening which makes it much easier to get into. I try and limit what I take to the range to what I can carry up my basement stairs without too much trouble.

Interesting thread about range bags and the different ways we use them. My tendency is to use the range bag for all the clap-trap I take to the range. Guns usually go into rifle or pistol cases. Ammo goes into 30 cal or 50 cal military ammo cans. The "fat 50" ammo can is tremendously useful. The rest of the stuff goes in the range bag. For me, it makes sense to use containers intended for a given use - firearms, ammo and "stuff."

I use a large range-type bag I was given by Taser when I attended Taser Instructor training at the Taser mothership in Scottsdale, AZ. Just the right size. It’s large enough to carry 4-6 guns in padded rugs, ammo and ears/eyes. Any larger it’d be too heavy to carry.

Several people mentioned padded sleeves or gun socks. What do you all use to hold your handguns within your range bag? A few times I've put guns in the bag loose and they've gotten scratched.

I rarely take more than 2 guns to the range, and both can fit in a hard-shell, foam-lined case. On the rare occasion I bring more than 2, I've got gun rugs for the rest. I typically also bring eyes and ears, a screwdriver, a rag, adhesive mailing labels (they make for good targets), a graph paper notepad, masking tape, a mag loader, magazines, speedloaders/strips, and ammo (I generally only shoot, at most, 200-300 rounds). I can fit all this in my backpack, though I admit it can make for a tight fit. I buy targets at the range and don't save them after I'm done.

I'm another take everything but the kitchen sink to the range guy. It doesn't take long to load up though. Here's most of the gear:

The small Craftsman tote box holds our hearing protection, rimfire ammo, a few tools, mag loader and overflow mags that don't fit the other cases. The doro case holds 5 pistols and 15 mags. The two Plano ammo boxes hold 9 mm (1150 rounds) and .223 (625 rounds). The cloth case holds the AR and 3 mags for it. I don't have a case yet for the 15-22. The plastic jug is used to collect brass since I reload.

Just a little 'head's-up' for you.....Your bipod is on backwards. ;)

My favorite range bag is the one I got for renewing my NRA membership .
It works so well that when I noticed the NRA still offered them with renewals ... I renewed aqain and got a second bag !
Nice bags , just the right size , at no cost , what's not to like ?
I think the offer may still be available...if you're not a member you might want to think about joining .

Due to the laws here in Australia, we cannot transport everything in the one range bag. Handguns must have a trigger lock or similar disabling device whilst transported. They also must be transported in a "sturdy lockable container". Ammo must also be transported in a separate locked container. So everything else goes into my Police Duty Bag to the range.

Once at the range, the items can then be put into the one bag. But generally, depending on the match/competition, I might take all three.

I use rugs to store and transport guns to the range, shows, etc.

I have been using this bag I got from the NRA several years ago. It appears identical to the Midway bag posted by "Luvmine". Lately I have been thinking about getting a wheeled carrier to put it on. It seems to be getting heavier lately.

I wish I knew who made my range bag I think it was a Winchester promotion. I got it free in 2002. It has really held up well too!

I like to use those little 2 compartment 6 mag soft pistol cases.
They also have room for ammo. I can put two weapons in one bag and two bags in my range bag.

Next they'll require you to have all padlocks have a different key.:)

Mine is the MidwayUSA Waxed Canvas Pistol Range Bag Olive Brown. I only take one or two revolvers to the range. It's the ammo that makes it heavy. It's always lighter on the way home. I also bought the matching pistol rug for my model 69.
