I was using CCI mini-mag ever since I got the rifle and not even 1 jam. I shot around 1500 rounds of CCI.

Yesterday, I went to the range to try the new shortie mags and used Federal 22lr 36 grains and it had a lot of FTE.

To take out other possibilities, I tried my older mags and still a lot of FTE, so it's not the new mags.

Only good thing about it was my kids learned how to clear the jam :D

That sucks, sorry to hear it. My rifle eats Federal bulk like crazy.

Federal Bulk, it's what's for dinner.

LOL I know most people here use Federal for plinking that's why I tried it. I will be testing some other brands this coming weekend. Gives me reason to go to the range :D

I'm assuming you also tried the regular style mag that you've been using right?

What are JUST the first 3 letters of your serial number?

Do you have the "blue springs" conversion?

Your "older mags", are they 1st or 2nd Generation mags?

first was your fte a failure to eject or a failure to extract... if its extracting and not ejecting it could be that the ejector just needs to be tweeked a small amount if its the extractor then it needs to be tweeked... those two ammos have to very different casings.. believe me, ive spent the last 2 weeks getting my belt fed gun to run feds just because of the differences in the casings themselves...

Well the first 3 letters are DTX and in regards to the springs, I can't find any blue springs (don't know which one) :D

My problem was ejecting, it was getting caught. Don't know how to adjust it but I'm willing to play around with it.

If I do adjust it and eliminate the problem using Federal, do I need to readjust it if I use a different brand of ammo?

Thanks for all the reply. This forum is really helpful for newbies like me.

CCIs are a lot hotter and are more forgiving because of that and the casing has a slightly different radious on the rear of it... if you tweek it for the feds the ccis will still run... there is a video on youtube on how to bend the ejector in just a bit... this should fix the problem.. but I would either buy the j&p spring kit($10) or bend the hammer spring to allow the bolt to cycle easier.. takes 2 min.

Thanks Belt_Fed. As always, you are helpful for people like me. I'm gonna search about the J&p kits and do some reading on how to install it.

Again, thank you so much.

These guns are stupid simple don't let it scare you... there are plenty of tutorials on youtube on how to remove and reinstall your fire control... but the first time you fumble threw it you'll be like "is that it"

Odd occurrence yesterday:
I was shooting along w/ Federal bulk and was having no problems. My 15-22 likes Federal fairly well and I have gotten used to the differences in "lighter" sound and lower recoil that come along occasionally. I have shot about 6,000 rounds since the rifle came back from S&W.

Anyhow, one shot was noticeably light and the bolt did not close after detonation and smoke rolled from the breech! This was remarkably similar to the episode some months back when the innards of the rifle went on an unguided tour of the indoor range. The bolt stopped on a round that was partially stripped from the magazine. The spent casing was ejected.

As it turned out, all the pieces were there and it was not an out of battery event. The sound of the detonation was light enough that I was concerned that the bullet had not left the barrel. An inspection indicated that was not the case. The rifle continued to fire normally after this occurrence.

All I can figure is that I got a "short" round somehow. The Federal stuff varies a little but I never had this happen.

had no issues with Federal what so ever and Ive put a couple of thousand rounds through my gun.. Ive put about a hundred ccis also without issue, it might be your gun bro.

Well after adjusting the ejector per suggestion of Belt_Fed, shot 550 rounds of Federal and 100 rounds of CCI today and not even one FTE but I'm still gonna order the springs ;) Thank you everybody.
