Federal Target grade ammo

Hi all...hit the range today with some federal target grade 40 grain I had picked up from Wally world. Ended up having quite a few fail to ejects. About 1 per mag average i would say. 10 rd mag and 25 rd mag same behavior. Have shot primarily federal bulk before and have not had near the issues I had today. Not sure if it is the ammo, or maybe the gun is just a bit dirty and needs a good coat of oil? Could dirt accumulate enough to slow down the action enough to see ejection issues?

Generally speaking (and we all know how well generalizing works) target ammunition is low powered sub sonic so it does not have to pass through the hypersonic barrier buffeting and often fails to properly cycle a semi-automatic rifle. I would not worry about it, Run the stuff you know works and save the target ammo for your bolt actions.

I find that when i run federal in mine it usally run good till i v put 200 rounds threw it then i start to get FTF most likely because it gets real dirty in the chamber. I usally run CCI tac in mine.

What he said about the match ammo.

Do not fall into the trap of overlubrication. There should be no wet oil on the bolt body. Spray a little RemOil on it and then wipe the bolt with a rag. Same deal with the bolt carrier rails - just a very light coat of lubricant such as Tetra grease. One other place for a little lube - on the face of the hammer.

Good to know about the target grade ammo. I had no idea it was closer to a subsonic round.

also check to make sure when you load your mag that its stacking properly ive had issues when the ammo didnt stack right good luck hope it helps i love federal ammo it works great in my gun..

Federal in the red box at Wally world is what mine ran close to 400 rounds of today with only 1 failure to fire and that might have been who loaded it.

That won't effect failure to eject. Have you accidentally bent the ejector while you're cleaning the gun? It doesn't take much to bend it. (One of the few parts that I haven't yet figured out why S&W built it that way)

I must of got really lucky with my 15-22's as they run like sewing machines for me. I've ran match ammo through mine as well as high velocity without a hiccup. Not to say I've never ever had a problem but they are very far and few.

Will definitely check the ejector when I get home. Didn't think about that. I do know that I didn't clean or take the gun apart since last shooting and had no issues then.

Give the chamber a good scrubbing also. I use a little piece of tubing that I slip over the ejector to keep from snagging it when cleaning.

Fed Value Pack
Velocity - 1260 Muzzle, 125 ft.lbs.

Federal Auto Match is NOT sub-sonic and it's not really match ammo. The only real Federal Match is Gold Medal. It's advertised at 1,080 fps, which it typical match speed. All the other Federal "match" is 1,200 fps or higher. That's not to say it won't be accurate in your firearm, but just because something says match doesn't make it automatically the most accurate. Only shooting will tell.
