Buying and watching, I've seen a varient of prices charged for a FFL transfer. I have two near me who charge $20 and one who charges $40. I've seen a few $50 prices out there. What about your area? Given the paperwork, etc. what do you think is fair for a transfer?

The FFL I use charges $20 if he can fax his license copy or $25 if he has to mail it (he will only send it certified mail). He also charges that same $20-$25 if you buy more than one gun at a time. Most others in the area charge $35.

Ah, geez. Not this **** again.

Given the risk involved, the ffl can lose his license if the transfer isn't done properly, no amount is too great.
I charge $50 flat (that includes the $10 background check everyone in this state pays). If someone wants to do it for less, more power to them.

mine charges $10 per serial #. Most reasonable I've found. It's more of a hobby for him, so he's not trying to make a killing. Most others are $25

This has been hashed over several times before but what the heck..it's a slow night. 25-35 bucks is probably a reasonable fee, in most locations, for a dealer who's makes his living off his FFL where the state doesn't pile on more paperwork. The paperwork you see him do at the time of purchase is only part of the job. At the end of the day he still has to enter all those 4473 forms in his ATF log book and sort and file them in a manner to make them readily accessable to ATF inspections and keep them filed for the next twenty years as required by federal law. Just keeping an FFL requires an investment of time, money, and submitting to scrutiny by ATF that most of us would rather avoid.
Of course, there are a few hobby dealers who will do it for less, and even do their buddies for free, and a few dealers who give good customers a break on the fee. I don't know all the specific details of what's required for transactions in CA, MA, and a few other unfriendly states, so maybe 50-75 bucks for just the transfer paperwork is not out of line in some states. IMHO 50-75 bucks would be outrageous for a state like Ohio.

Mine does it for $20 no matter how many guns you are getting. Most of them in my area are $30-$50 per serial number.

FFL dealers around here charge between $40 and $100. we don't have too much of a choice and have to pay what ever they dictate.

Twenty bucks for mine. He sells a lot of guns on the internet, so the way I look at it is he makes good money doing transfers for that amount. He is cheaper than other guys, so he gets more volume.

my FFL wont charge me for transfers, but he only does transfers for just a few of us(friends), I just let em know whats showing up, I keep their FFL on file at my office.

but I think in gereral in my area its 25-50 depending

scotsbrae - I've seen $25 to $50 over the years. To me, I don't mind giving money to a Mom and Pop buisness in my Community that takes care of me during the year. The Gun shops that I deal with call me when something comes in the door that they know I will like. It all balances out in the wash :)
