When a FFL Dealer receives a Firearm for an indiviual, what is involved besides recording the Firearm in his record book, having the indiviual making out a Form #4473?
What is the normal fee the FFL charges? Is $50.00 to $75.00 normal?

What people charge varies all over the place. The guy who does it for me charges me $25 which I figure is not too bad.

I would say the going rate is $25 around here. My guy does it for $15 (not just for me). Check this out:

Entirely depends on the going rate around you, but $50+ sounds pretty steep to me.

$20-30 is normal around here (upstate NY). Some will charge an extra few bucks for a (new) handgun over a long gun since the fired casing has to go to the state police.

I know downstate and on Long Island dealers are charging higher prices.

I paid $50 once to a local FFL. Never darkened the SOB's door after that. He is out of business now, wonder why?

The new guy in town has been charging $10 for the last 4 years now.

Around here Gander Mountain,Cabelas and some of the bigger gun shops charge 40 to 75 but the smaller shops and pawn shops charge around 25

Mine just charged me $20 to use his license to mail a handgun back east.
A shop in the next town charges $50.
I think the $50-$75 charges are an attempt to encourage you to buy your guns from them. They are trying to get their profit one way or another.
I could even accept this if the guns being bought are something that is available in the normal course of business (new or current milsurp), but it really irritates me to have to pay it for something they don't carry and can't readily get. (like collectables)

The dealer I patronize charges $20. He has to log it into his books when it arrives. When I pick it up he has to make sure I fill out the forms right and call in the background check. When the ATF shows up for an audit he has to put up with their song and dance. I don't mind the $20, just figure that in when evaluation the cost of my purchase, same as shipping.

Now the good thing is if I sell a firearm and it needs mailed he charges the same $20, which includes shipping.

I own a Pawn Shop & we charge $25 for transfers. We have been doing a bunch more lately of course. Have done 3 so far today. $50 to $75 is way too much. Check Gunbroker, you can find someone cheaper in your area.

Up from $25 due to higher volume and PITA factor, according to the shop owner.

I have several friends with FFLs who will do transfers for $20. but none of them are retailers. Retailers seem to feel they should get a lot for a transfer which will encourage you to buy guns from them instead(though they don't have what you want).

We do it for $35. $10 for the state, $25 for the store. Our local competitor charges $75. And makes you feel real small about the whole deal.

Added after safearm's comment. I did a seven gun transfer on Saturday. Total charge to the customer? $35.

My current shop charges $30; the one I previously used charges $40 per gun, even if they're on the same order. That why he is now the previous shop.

$25 to my guy, and an easy guy to work with to boot. Others are all over the map, higher, including one who wants 2% of purchase +$30. The ones who suggest you must come on bended knee are the worst IMO.
