Final UPDATE -- 640 Pro Series - How Low Is Too Low??

Nice 640 there Getagun.

I did ask if they had any authorized S&W gunsmiths in my area which could replace the sight and send them the bill. Their response was it would all be on my dime for that option.

The $$$ aren't the issue as much as I want them to make it right before they run out of FedEx shipping labels. I'm not sure which will happen first! I have my fourth shipping label and I'll get it out to them this next week.

Edmo: Your story is killing me.

Interesting that the. 357 and 5he 38 sp.had the same POI.

I say the 38 Special was the same, but it was just generally a smidge lower. I also was shooting it at 7 yards which makes it all look about the same as the next load, however I wasn't shooting it from a rested position when firing the 38 loads. Shooter variables were likely at play.

I did shoot at some broken clay pigeon bits on the berm at 50 yards from a rest with the Remington 130 grain 38 Special target loads. As expected, they were 6-8" low at that range.

The bottom line is this... This new barrel is throwing bullets so close to where the sights are pointing that I'm now happy. Hopefully the new front sight doesn't shift the POA & POI apart again.

The gun is almost like it should be... Almost...

My 640 Pro made it's way home yesterday and they replaced the dead front sight. I think this little revolver could likely find its own way to S&W and back after the number of times it has made the trip.

The front sight's tritium vial actually glows now, however it isn't as bright as the front sight that was on the last barrel nor as bright as the two rear tritium dots. Oh well... I guess they did the best they could do over four returns.

On the plus side, they apparently noticed the missing "357 MAG" on the barrel which they installed on the third trip back. The barrel now has the caliber etched on it.

I took it out to the range just to verify they didn't monkey up the point of aim/point of impact with the new sight. The gun now hits to point of aim. Below are 5 rounds of 357 Magnum fired from a rest at 7 yards.

Hopefully this gun will never have to go back for anything else.
